This document discusses the evolution of project management from traditional waterfall approaches to more modern DevOps approaches. It describes how project managers historically focused on tasks, reports, and budgets using techniques like Gantt charts. Their interaction with developers was often adversarial. Operations teams did not get involved until after projects completed. More recently, the Renaissance saw improvements like shared estimation but operations remained separate. Modern DevOps approaches integrate operations earlier and see project managers take a new role as delivery enablers who facilitate communication and continuous improvement across teams.
