5. History/Milestone in SMH services in
Nepal
• SMH program started in in Non-Governmental
level in 1994AD
• SMH program started in Nepal in 1997AD
(2054BS)
• National RH strategy & Strength policy in 1998
AD
• The policy on skilled birth Attendant's endorsed
in 2006
• The policy in Blood Transfusion endorsed in
2006
6. Continues..
• Abortion services legalized in 2003 and
established in 2004 AD
• Medical Abortion was started frim 2065
BS(2008AD) with 6 district up to 2071/72
expanded to 39 district but now all districts.
• Nyano Jhol Programme was launched in
2069/70 to protect newborns from hypothermia
and infection, also to increase the use of
peripheral health facilities ( Birthing Centers)
• This programme implemented in all 77 districts
in 2072/73
