1. 80 ◆ WEDDING AFFAIR
❏ How would you describe yourself as a person?
Karanvir Sharma: I am an extremist. Whatever I do in
life, I ensure to give it my 100%, sometimes, a little more
than that. So I am an extremist, but in a good way. (smiles)
❏ Did you always aspire to be an actor?
KS: Actually, I wanted to be a director. As a child I was
exceptionally good at assimilating things artistically, in
varied patterns and spectrums of creativity.
Years passed and I got involved in creative
arts and realised, it’s quite similar to what I
wanted to do and what I am good at.
Eventually, I met Anupam Kher and I
decided to take my first step in the world of acting. I was
quite lost about my future when I joined his institute ‘An
Actor Prepares’. I was a part of his 9th batch and that is
where I attained the knowledge required for the industry.
❏ What has been a ‘turning point’ in your life so far?
KS: Working as the protagonist in ‘Zid’. ‘Zid’has been a good
beginning for my career and it has got me a lot of new work. I
have signed an upcoming film as an antagonist with Balaji and
I am also a huge part of the ‘24’ series by Anil Kapoor.
❏ Your killer moves from ‘Zid’ were on the radar of
Bollywood gossips. Is dance your passion?
KS: My ultimate passion is acting. I do not give much credit
to my dancing skills. It’s all about how confidently you pull
it off. I feel, I can add my own groove to the rhythm. One can
do anything and as long as it is done with confidence, it turns
out well.
❏ The experience of shooting for you debut movie,
‘Sadda Adda’.
KS: The experience will always be ethereal because the
excitement, the thrill of shooting for the first movie can never
be felt again. I know all about ‘how it’s done’ now. The
anticipation of the ‘new’ experience was amazing.
❏ ‘Zid’ was unlike the usual. It was an unconventional
script. What was it like shooting for a thrilling role
opposite Mannara Chopra?
KS: The ‘unconventional’ was something I was quite sceptic
about. The story revolved around the lines of something as
different as the movie ‘Gone Girl’. You can never guess how
a psychological thriller is received by the audience. I am glad
it was accepted because the storyline was really ahead of
time. It was a task for me to bring out the other side of
humanity through my acting. Working with Mannara,
however, was quite refreshing. She has this vibe of freshness
that adds positivity to her aura.
❏ Is there a specific role you fantasise about enacting?
KS: You know how they say, “With great tasks comes great
responsibility!” I am pretty sure everyone is quite powerful
in their own acts, but I have always looked up to
superheroes. I would also love to enact the role of ‘Karna’
of ‘Mahabharat’.
❏ Your fitness routine?
KS: (Laughs) I am a very lazy person when it comes to
fitness. I have a number of instructors to help me build my
physique. I am not the kind who are always motivated to
head to the gym; one has to push me to the limits. I take more
interest in Martial Arts and am trained in Krav Maga. An
incident in my life made me realise how important building
up your strength is.
❏ A message for the readers.
KS: No matter how simple your background is, if your
passion is real and your efforts are genuine, you can make it
through. I am very sure there is space for everyone in
Bollywood; all you need is perseverance and perspective to
reach where you want to. ■
