The workshop is structured in three parts
	- Part 1 - Introduction to timber construction (~2 h)
Together with the participants we develop the
foundations by means of small exercises and
interactive lectures.
	- Part 2 - Case study (~3 h)
Based on a defined building typology (i.e. office
building) we develop a case study. The goal of this
second part is to transform an existing design into
a clever timber structure with a holistic approach,
resulting in a basic feasibility study, i.e. structural
concept, choice of materials, production, logistics,
assembly, installation and interfaces to other
trades. This part is interactive as well and requires
sketching solutions and evaluating them - learning
by doing!
	- Part 3 - Q&A (~1 h)
After understanding the basics and gaining
knowledge on how to design a timber structure
yourself, there is time for answering questions and
looking deeper into current design issues.
Timber is a sustainable, efficient and lightweight
construction solution and has a lot of architectural
qualities. With climate change in mind, timber
construction is the future!
This timber workshop is specifically tailored for
architects with different backgrounds and only little
experience in timber construction. It covers the basics,
of how to start designing a timber structure, common
challenges and basic rules of thumb. We share our
knowledge in an interactive practice-based manner,
enabling participants to gain in-depth knowledge and
confidence to design intelligent timber structures.
Workshop fee:
697 dollar / pers.
