SUMMARY
Designer is responsible for taking a lead role in coordinating and performing the necessary drafting responsibilities for the
projects assigned to their Engineering Team. Responsibilities are defined by working closely with engineers, lab technicians,
and other drafting personnel to complete the design and documentation of products and releasing this information to the rest
of the company for production readiness.
Perform computer-aided/general board drafting involving simple and advanced assemblies/layouts, detailing and original
design work for new and existing products including cast or fabricated parts. Manage assigned workload to completion of
finished drawings, Engineering Specifications, Bills of Materials, Technical Literature and Engineering Change
Requests/Orders with little or no guidance from Engineer.
Will require interface with all other department personnel and external vendors both independently or with little guidance from
Engineer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage assigned design work for new or revised products working directly with other departments and vendors
2. Make simple and advanced assembly layout & detail drawings (2D) or part and/or assembly models (3D)
3. Make preliminary and finished documents, with little or no guidance from Engineer, including:
a. Drawings, of:
i. Casting, fabricated and purchased parts
ii. Exploded assemblies
iii. Line drawing artwork
iv. Labels
b. Engineering Specifications.
c. Technical Literature artwork.
4. Establish proper packing arrangement of parts and assemblies required for creation of Engineering Bills of Material
5. Assume new design work requiring calculations of casting weights, heating surface areas and water volumes of new or
existing products as directed by
6. Maintain assigned CAD system files and good computer housekeeping practices with little or no guidance from CAD
Administrator.
7. Keep abreast of new CAD technologies.
8. Keep abreast of current drafting practices as identified in the Drafting Work Department Work Instructions and the Weil-
McLain ISO Process.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS Engineering
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- General Drafting = 5 years on the job experience
- AutoCAD = 3 years’ experience
- Pro-Engineer, SolidWorks or other 3D modeling application = 5 year experience
- Design experience = 1-2 years
- Print reading ability
- Mechanical ability
- Microsoft Windows & Office applications
- Managing multiple projects with changing priorities
Familiar with the following:
- Manufacturing and assembly processes
- Engineering change order process & bills of material
Preferred additional requirements:
- Formal ProEngineer training (basic, fundamental of design, sheet metal and advanced classes)
- Product Centervaulting application

Intense interaction with computer keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time.
