Urban Skyline, reSearch
ProjecT
The firm anchored their research on Mumbai.
As a competition entry, the brief was to
transform the existing skyline of the city. The
design team purposefully kept away from the
utopian concept, believing that the built
environment can enhance the skyline, not
necessarily change the social fabric.
Their design is an insert that would act
as a catalyst to reinvent the landscape. The
idea could be an economically sensible way to
germinate and infuse changes in the city
which could easily be replicated without
resulting in a monotonous and ‘top down’
urban sight. The attempt thus was to trigger a
better design than the hermetic glass and
repetition box buildings that ubiquitously dot
the city’s skyline.
The design lies open-ended, with twists
and turns in its form, to allow for rain, sun,
air and light to filter through the spaces. The
concrete building would be porous in its
character, tropical-friendly, providing room
for vegetable gardens.
