- #4 It is important not to go overboard with the animations of a presentation. Some animation is a good thing when used sparingly. Slide after slide of transitions become lengthy and boring. - #5 During a presentation if too much text is on a slide the audience loses focus. The repetition of bullet point after bullet point becomes boring and useless. It is even suggested that slides do not always need text. Slides are meant to help support the narration of the speaker. It is not good to simply read off the slides themselves. - #6 A consistent visual theme is recommended when making a presentation. However it is vital to not use PowerPoint templates. They are overused, boring, and not that great to begin with. - #7 On your slides it is important to use high quality graphics. By using a detailed and rich photo the audience is captured. Never use pictures that are too small or the wrong format because they often appear on the slides pixilated and distorted. Picture choice is critical and is a much preferred alternative to boring templates and clip art which again often appears unprofessional. - #8 A key element of design is color usage. The colors of a presentation effect the audience more than you might think. Colors evoke feelings and emotions. The ideas or information that you are sharing need to match the colors you use on the slides. - #9 Don’t overload your audience with facts and visuals! When making a presentation it is important to only include the charts, and graphs that are necessary to convey your point. If you include too many visuals the audience may lose focus or clear understanding. - #10 When making a presentation it is vital to remember to cite your sources. Anything that isn’t original or produced by you needs to be correctly cited. Pictures that are not your own need to be checked in reference to creative commons licensing.
