Description
:
The FINAL must be typed using either Helvetica or Times New
Roman fonts,
point size 12
, double-spaced.
Do not include any graphics, drawings, photographs, charts, or
sketches.
Margins should be set at 1-inch from top, bottom, left, and
right.
Each question
must be answered with a
1 ½ - page
written reply.
This means that each student must submit a written
response to both questions
in order to minimally fulfill the required needs of the FINAL.
Place your name that appears on your CSUN student
identification card at the upper right corner of
each of the four pages
(if your name does not appear at the top of the page it is
possible that it could become lost and deprive the student of
points).
This is the student’s responsibility to ensure that this is carried
out accurately.
Question #1
:
When you visited The Getty Museum, there were no examples
of Chicano/a Art on view there.
The museum/gallery walls have many works of art but
completely exclude the exhibition of work by Chicano/a artists.
The Getty Museum might have specific rules and regulations as
to why such an obvious form of exclusion exists there, even
though Chicana/os (people of Mexican descent who reside
within the United States) comprise that largest segment of the
population in Los Angeles and all of California.
To the museum/gallery visitor and viewer, what do you feel is
the message that is being made by The Getty Museum in not
exhibiting Chicana/o art?
Question #2
:
What is the connection to modernism and post-modernism in
Chicana/o Art?
Provide
two
examples of Chicana/o Art (
include title of work and name of the artist and the year created
) and discuss your reasoning in arriving at your conclusions
regarding this issue.
Your selection of artwork for this is important:
2-dimensional art (drawings, painting, murals), or 3-
dimensional art (sculpture, ceramics, installation art),
conceptual (performance, new genre), and/or multimedia
(cinema, video, live performance, and/or digitally produced
works.
