how 5 seconds of summer became a band

2. • Luke Hemmings was always looked at as a little odd
because of the music he listened to
• On February 3rd 2011 Luke uploaded his first YouTube
cover of “please don’t go” by Mike Posner
• Luke and Michael Clifford hated each other
• Calum Hood started to talk to Luke in band class and
they did the school talent show together

3. • Michael realized that Luke couldn’t be that bad and so they
started talking
• The three became best friends and played a lot of music
together
• Michael said to Luke “Dude lets make a band,” and Luke
agreed. Calum kind of just assumed he was in the band
because he was best friends with both of them
• One day in math class Michael told Calum and Luke that the
band name was 5 seconds of summer
• The three of them started to post more covers on Lukes
YouTube channel Hemo1996 and they were starting to get
more and more views.

4. • The three boys thought they were perfect until they got
their first gig at the Annandale Hotel
• Michael Facebooked a guy he knew and asked if he wanted
to play drums for 200 people. Ashton Irwin said sure and
Michael gave him information on where rehearsal was.
• Ashton showed up at Michaels house on a pushbike in an
“awful purple shirt” as it is now referred to.
• The rest of the band said that he almost was not allowed to
play the gig with them because he did not play fifa with the
rest of them.
• Ashton says that he had saw some covers by them before
and said that they are really good but they need to really
get serious about it.

5. • The day came around and it was their first gig
• Only 12 people showed up but they say that
they can still remember some of the names of
the people that came.
• After the gig Michael, Luke, and Calum talked
it over and decided to ask Ashton if he wants
to officially join the band.
• Ashton accepted

6. • They went on to put more covers on YouTube and get more
and more popular
• Calum wrote the first song for the band and it was called
gotta get out
• After a little while the boys got noticed by One Direction
and got asked to go on tour with them
• Now they are about to start their North America tour and
they have just recently sighed their first band with hi or hey
records Hey Violet
• They have gone on to become an amazing band in my
opinion and have many awards to prove it
• I am excited to see them live for the first time this summer
and cant wait to see what they have to come out next.
