#17 As you know, cyberattacks have grown increasingly sophisticated, and ensuring data integrity requires robust security measures across every layer of your infrastructure. That’s where Data Domain shines—with features like Secure Boot and Hardware Root of Trust, your data is protected from the ground up, starting at the boot process. Add to this multi-factor authentication, secure transport protocols for data in flight and at rest, and immutability. The focus is clear—keeping bad actors away from your data so it cannot be tampered with or corrupted.
#18 One thing organizations cannot compromise on is durability when it comes to their data protection. At Dell, we’ve engineered the exclusive Data Invulnerability Architecture, which delivers 100% data validation from end to end. This architecture ensures that backup data, whether in transit or storage, is continuously self-verified and any errors are self-healed automatically—providing peace of mind in critical recovery scenarios.
End-to-end verification ensures absolute data integrity by verifying that data written to disk matches what was sent, proving it is intact and accessible. Any I/O errors, including those affecting in-flight data, are corrected instantly using NVRAM.
Fault avoidance and containment ensures that no existing good data is overwritten. Instead, all new writes are directed to new RAID stripes. NVRAM corrects errors caused by automated data checks, corrupted data in RAM, system crashes, and even power failures.
With continuous fault detection and healing, Data Domain protects against disk failures and even prevents operator errors like pulling the wrong disk. It continuously detects and corrects errors during restores, while maintaining stripe consistency after writes. Ongoing checks identify and repair bad data and it doesn’t rely on NVRAM or UPS for stripe consistency.
File system recoverability reinforces recoverability with features that reconstruct lost or corrupted file system metadata from point-in-time backups or rebuilt data directly from disk. Unlike other operating systems, the DDDOS avoids the delays of block map or reference count rebuilds, allowing the system to come online quickly and safely.
#19 Maximize deployment options and minimize geographic risk.
From core to edge, to multicloud, combined with cloud tier for long-term retention, plus unique integration with Dell storage—all backed by an extensive backup software partner ecosystem—you can be sure that you can secure all your data anywhere.
#20 This brings us to efficiency. Data Domain enables organizations to maximize IT spending by delivering exceptional efficiency in data protection. With our proprietary DD Boost deduplication technology, we can reduce storage requirements by up to an industry-leading 65-to-1. This not only minimizes the storage space required but also reduces costs to as little as 1 cent per GB per month for comprehensive protection. Additionally, recent advancements have led to up to 11% less power consumption and space savings of 50% compared to previous generations.
#21 Data Domain appliances are built to deliver fast, efficient, and secure enterprise data protection. These three pillars underpin everything we’ll discuss as we look deeper into how Data Domain safeguards and optimizes your data infrastructure. Let's break each one down to give you a clear understanding of how this technology delivers on its promise.
#22 When a disaster strikes or your business relies on quick data recovery, speed is non-negotiable. Data Domain helps ensure shorter backup windows and faster restores—perfect for when time matters most. Our design minimizes disruption and ensures your operations bounce back quickly, meeting critical SLAs and reducing downtime risk.
#23
With Data Domain, you won't need to choose between meeting SLAs and protecting your environment. You can back up as much as you need without impacting production workloads. Backups are up to 38% faster and restores are up to 44% faster compared to prior generation models, as proven in our internal performance testing. This means you’ll save valuable time and resources while maintaining trust and compliance.
#24 Data Domain leverages a CPU-centric architecture for better performance. Why CPUs? They’re orders of magnitude faster at processing memory compared to even the latest storage technologies like flash.
#25 One of the technologies that sets Data Domain apart is DD Boost—our proprietary deduplication algorithm. It reduces the impact on networks, clients, and even the storage itself. Fewer resources are consumed, while backup jobs are expedited. With DD Boost, you can significantly reduce your storage needs without compromising performance.
#26 Data Domain integrates seamlessly with a wide range of backup software and applications. This gives you the flexibility to work with your existing backup software or adopt new software without hurdles. No matter your ecosystem, our advanced integration ensures smooth operations and future-ready scalability for your existing on-premises environments.
#27 Efficiency in backup and protection isn’t just about cost savings—it’s about putting more resources back into your IT operations. That’s where Data Domain really makes its mark.
#28 Efficiency translates directly to cost savings and lower total cost of ownership. Data Domain achieves industry-leading deduplication rates of up to 65:1, significantly cutting storage needs and reducing costs.
The latest models consume more than 36% less power and require up to 5x less rack space than earlier models, ensuring you get more out of your budget and space.
According to an ESG study, protecting your data with Data Domain can cost you less than 1 cent per gigabyte per month—making it the smarter financial choice for enterprises.
#29 Dell’s deduplication technology with DD Boost isn’t just about reducing duplicate data—it’s about precision and variability. By focusing on a small segment size of just 8KB, our deduplication identifies redundant segments across large-scale datasets with incredible accuracy. This commitment to micro-level precision means you won’t just save storage space—you’ll do so without compromising performance or retention policies.
Variability is also key. Data rarely evolves in fixed patterns; instead, it changes in an organic and unpredictable way. For instance, when a document is edited, Data Domain can pinpoint and isolate only the parts that have been modified. This ability to adapt ensures efficiency and accuracy in managing your data.
#30 Did you know protection copies can account for up to 95% of an organization’s data? With Data Domain achieving an up to 65:1 deduplication ratio, we minimize storage consumption. Even a slight improvement in deduplication can result in exponential storage savings, ensuring you get maximum utilization out of your infrastructure.
#31 Our deduplication technology doesn’t just save space—it optimizes operations. By reducing data sizes, you shorten backup windows, speed up replication, and lower your total cost of ownership. With Data Domain, you get a right-sized solution that aligns with your business needs without wasting resources.
#32 The latest generation of Data Domain appliances takes consolidation to the next level. With the Data Domain All-Flash Ready Node, you can reduce rack space by 5 times. And, with the DD9910, with up to 1.5 petabytes of scalability in a single rack, you can reduce floor space by up to 50%. This means not only a more organized data center but also significant savings in power and operational costs.
#33 Data is one of the most valuable assets in today’s organizations, but it’s also one of the most vulnerable. With Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, we offer comprehensive cyber resilience for your data—no matter where it resides. By adopting this proactive approach, you can protect your organization from security risks, enabling innovation and uninterrupted business operations.
#34 As you look to enhance your cybersecurity strategy, think about more than just specific use cases—it’s important to consider how your solutions can comprehensively address the three pillars of protection. These are reducing attack surfaces, detecting and responding to threats, and recovering from cyber incidents. Dell's data protection solutions fulfill all three. With features like multi-factor authentication, immutable backups, and advanced analytics, we help your team simultaneously block vulnerabilities, identify risks early, and recover with confidence when necessary. It’s about evolving your security maturity while ensuring your data remains untouchable.
#35 With today's sophisticated cyber threats, it's not enough to simply back up your data. You need to make sure that data is protected from tampering, corruption, and unauthorized access. Data Domain offers a comprehensive set of advanced security features to give you that confidence.
Simply put, Data Domain doesn’t just secure your data—it secures the processes and systems that manage your data. The result? A fortified environment where your backups are safe, tamper-proof, and ready when disaster strikes.
#36 Zero Trust isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a principle that ensures your systems never assume safety but continuously verify it. Data Domain’s architecture embodies Zero Trust principles with secure boot processes, hardware root of trust, and chain-of-trust authentication. This approach solidifies every layer of your infrastructure, ensuring the integrity and reliability of your operating systems and firmware against even the best-planned attacks. This is how you build trust, one secure block at a time.
#37 Resilience is about preparation, and it starts with three key elements—immutability, isolation, and intelligence from PowerProtect Cyber Recovery.
With Dell’s Compliance Mode Retention Lock, no one—not even administrators—can delete or alter critical data. Unique to Data Domain are enhancements that further secure the lock from an attack on the clock or NTP server, which might otherwise allow a bad actor to create an early expiration of the lock. Those who do not want or require such a strong control, or want operational flexibility, can configure governance retention lock.
Maximum resilience goes further with vault-based isolation, physically and logically separating data from potential threats. When the air gap is in a "locked" state – no data can flow – there is no access to any part of the solution. When unlocked, which is done to update or "sync" data, the operation is controlled from the secure, vaulted side, not from production. And during this phase the vault maintains a very secure profile. Only network traffic representing replication data is allowed and there is never access to other vault components or to the management plane of the storage or solution. So bad actors can't wait for the vault to unlock and then just drive in.
Finally, AI-driven intelligence tools based on CyberSense proactively analyze your data, identifying anomalies that could indicate threats. Machine learning ensures that the analytics stay ahead of changes in tactics.
#38 What sets Dell apart is our approach to isolation. When we talk about isolation, we mean a complete separation between your production environment and your recovery vault. No control access exposed to the outside and no persistent network connection. This ensures that even if a threat actor gains access to your production environment, your protected data remains untouched and, more importantly, recoverable.
As you can see on this slide, data centers and public cloud normally have connections that enable data to flow between two points, such as with backups. They also allow a “control plane” or path, which generally means administrative or other management access. This is also why claims that an append only file system are not necessarily secure. The data path only allows additions to stored data, but the control plane typically allows access to delete or change retentions on those copies.
That control path also controls when the data path is available. If these control capabilities are always accessible, they can always be attacked. True isolation removes any entry points for bad actors, safeguarding your organization from escalating attacks.
#39 CyberSense is your organization’s watchdog, constantly monitoring, detecting, and addressing potential cyber threats. Using advanced analytics and machine learning, it scans every backup, ensuring not only metadata but full content is validated for integrity. If anomalies are detected—whether due to ransomware encryption or mass data deletion—CyberSense provides forensic reporting to identify the attack's origin, method, and impact. This equips your IT team with the information needed to recover the last known good data quickly and effectively.
#40 Downtime isn't just inconvenient; it’s expensive and a threat to your company’s reputation. With Data Domain, you’re prepared to recover fast and meet even the most stringent compliance requirements. Over 2,100 organizations already rely on our solutions for their cyber recovery systems.
