Hurricanes are the most destructive type of natural disaster. Hurricane Katrina in particular left millions in shambles and devastation when it hit New Orleans in 2005, flooding the city with heavy rains that destroyed homes and buildings and left streets impassable except by boat due to deep or debris-filled waters, images of which were broadcast widely on television news coverage around the world showing the sadness and destruction wrought by the storm.
