Deindividuation refers to the phenomenon where individuality is reduced within a group setting, causing a decrease in self-awareness and self-regulation. When deindividuated, people are more likely to act upon their impulses and less likely to consider social norms and rules. Deindividuation has been shown to increase aggression and anti-social behavior in groups through a reduction in inner restraints against harmful actions.
