Hybrid excitation claw-pole alternator is a kind of generator that the magnetic
field of alternator is generated together by permanent magnet and excitation
coil. Normal nothing in rotor’s claw-pole but hybrid excitation rotor installed a
permanent magnet in claw-pole. After the permanent magnet infilled partial
space of claw-pole, magnetic flux leakage will be greatly reduced, forcing more
flux move to stator winding from rotor, thereby improving the alternator’s output
efficiency.
Compared with traditional auto alternator, the main features of hybrid excitation
auto alternators are:
1) Using high energy product rare earth permanent magnet materials to
excite, then the power density of alternator will increase.
2) Because of its structure, when excitation current of the field winding
decreases, excitation loss is reduced accordingly, and the alternator
efficiency is equivalent improved.
3) Alternator’s idle performance is good. At idle, it also can meet the
requirement of the vehicle loading needed voltage and current.
4) As adopted permanent magnets and coils to excite together, via adjusting
excitation current to adjust output voltage is available which combined the
adjustability of output voltage with high efficiency of permanent magnet
motor.
