Shang Zhou
The Shang Dynasty ruled China from around 1766 BC to 1100 BC. They had a strong monarchy centered in the capital city of Anyang. Rituals and ancestor worship were important for maintaining political and spiritual order. Writing developed on oracle bones used for divination. The Zhou people overthrew the Shang in 1100 BC, establishing the Zhou Dynasty. The Zhou introduced the concept of the Mandate of Heaven to justify changes in ruling dynasties.
