Deborah Hunter-Harvill comes from very humble roots, and believes that it is her duty to give back to her community. Her specialization was in Administration, Leadership and Supervision. 2. Deborah Hunter­Harvill
comes from very humble roots, and believes that it is
her duty to give back to her community. Fortunately,
her career has allowed her an excellent opportunity to
help the youth and children of metro Detroit School
children, Hazel Park Schools, Oak Park Schools, Flint
area schools and Buena Vista Schools.

3. Beginning in 1984, and spanning a period of 25 years, Deborah has had a prolific career in those education systems.

4. She was determined to make a difference, and
has left no stone unturned to help sweep in
reforms.
She received a Doctor of Education degree in
Administration and Leadership from Wayne State
University in Detroit in 1994.
Her specialization was in Administration,
Leadership and Supervision.

5. From the get go, Deborah Hunter­Harvill was determined
to better the education system so that children could have
access to high quality education.
One of her latest positions was as the Superintendent of
Buena Vista Schools.
She took the one year job with great responsibility, and
oversaw curriculum and instruction, instructional resources,
facilities, budget, human capital, and other educational
components.
She lead development and operations of all career/college
readiness partnerships with area community colleges and
independent training agencies.

6. Unfortunately, state funding was not available for
subsequent years, but
Deborah Hunter­Harvill
helped the graduates to receive scholarships and get
placed into college and universities. In addition, she
helped to consolidate the district with another district
for educational sustainability.

7. Deborah is a well read, intelligent, and experienced
educational leader.
She has excellent connections in the field and knows
what it takes to get the job done. She has dedicated her
life to this and believes it is her
true calling. She approaches each mission with an optimistic
and energetic attitude.
Even in one year as the Superintendent,
Deborah Hunter­Harvill
successfully achieved what it takes most other people a long
time to do.

8. Dr. Harvill Contributions
Facilitated school district consolidation and student placement
for continued education.

Administered career planning in role as Career Education
Planning District (CEPD) administrator.

Administered university partnership with Wayne State University
for juniors and seniors.

Enhanced student success by implementing long­term work
experience option utilizing School to Work.

Improved communication on behalf of the District by serving as
a primary liaison to all offices of Michigan Department of
Education, school principals, and academic partners.

Facilitated grant initiatives resulting in approval of Consolidated
Application [$3.5 million], Safe and Supportive Schools
[$825,000], School Improvement Plans
[approximately $5 million].


9. Facilitated special services program and K­12 academic learning
environment

Established and planned for seat time waiver request to extend
academic calendar to 210 days and to increase the amount of
time students attend courses each day.

Implemented professional development opportunities for
teachers, administrators and Board of Education members
through Title I, General funds and other scholarship
opportunities.

Deborah has chaired several committees and is the recipient
of the Social Action Leadership Award through Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc. Statewide Award.
