2. Hannah declinesthe role of LadyLiberty. WhenRichardasksherwhy,she tellshimthather
essayon makingpeace hasstarteda little warinTurtle Lake. She addsthat there isalreadytoo
much fightinginthe worldandshe shouldnotcause any more painor problems.
3. Afterschool,RichardtellsMrs.Hansenthat he declineshispartasthe Doughboy. He wantsto
supportHannah. Besides,he doesnotwantpeopletothinkthathe is alsomeanto Hannah like
the otherstudents.
4. The nextday,Mrs. Hansentellsthe classthatRichard doesnotwant to be the doughboy. She
announcesthatthe newLady LibertyisMillie WrightandHerbie Wycinski isthe new Doughboy.
