About Deaerator


Dissolved gases, including oxygen and carbon
dioxide, can create significant damage in steamgenerating systems, such as boilers. Oxygen creates
corrosion by affixing to metal walls or piping, while
carbon dioxide combines with water to form carbonic
acid, another highly corrosive substance. However, a
device called a deaerator, which removes dissolved
oxygen and other gases from a steam boiler’s
feedwater, can eliminate this problem.
Conclusion


There are two types of commonly available
deaerators. With the first, called a tray-type
deaerator, feedwater flows through perforated trays
and is exposed to steam, which removes gases. In
the second style, a spray-type deaerator, boiler
feedwater is sprayed into a chamber for preheating
and then passes into another section, where it is
deaerated by rising steam.
There are several deaerator configurations available
for optimum fit into any steam boiler environment. By
installing a deaerator, companies can protect their
equipment against corrosion damage and reduce
costly boiler maintenance.
