The document summarizes a workshop hosted in Toronto from September 20-21, 2010 about increasing bicycle use and applying aspects of the Dutch approach. Representatives from Toronto and Dutch bicycle experts discussed improving streets, neighborhoods, and the city's bikeability. They made recommendations for physically separated bike lanes, a downtown bike network, and a long-term strategy for promoting cycling. The workshops aimed to share Dutch bicycle policies and principles of prioritizing safety, enjoyment, and high-quality infrastructure.
The document summarizes a workshop held in Chicago on September 23-24, 2010 to discuss ways to make the city more bike-friendly by applying aspects of the Dutch approach to cycling infrastructure and policies. Dutch experts and local stakeholders met in teams to survey the city by bike and discuss how streets, intersections, and neighborhoods could be improved. Key recommendations included implementing the three pillars of the Dutch cycling philosophy: that cycling should be joyful, perceived as safe, and supported by high-quality infrastructure. The workshop provided new concepts and strategies to incorporate cycling as an integral part of Chicago's long-term transportation planning.

FLOW - Far and Large Offshore Wind (Summary)NLandUSA
The FLOW program is a Dutch initiative to develop offshore wind energy technology for farms located far offshore (75km from shore) in deep waters (35 meters deep). This pioneering project aims to establish the Netherlands as a global leader in offshore wind technology. No offshore wind farms currently operate at such distances or depths. The program is a collaboration between industry and research organizations to advance technologies for foundations, installation, and operation/maintenance of offshore wind farms in remote, deep water locations. Its goals are to contribute to the Netherlands' renewable energy targets and positioning its industries to succeed in the growing offshore wind market.
The Royal Netherlands Embassy, in cooperation with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG), hosted a 2-day event - the ThinkBike Workshops - on November 15-16, 2010.
This document summarizes a presentation given at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Washington DC on November 30, 2010 about transatlantic perspectives for global economic recovery and congruence in trade interests and export promotion policies. The presentation focused on three main points: that mercantilist approaches to trade promotion can be distracting, that trade promotion strategies can work to increase exports and imports, and that upholding the multilateral trading system through congruent strategies is especially important. Data was presented showing the impact of economic diplomacy on trade and exports. Completing the Doha round of trade negotiations was noted as something missing from fully realizing gains from trade. Shifting shares of world trade over time towards emerging economies like China was also discussed
Final recommendations Thinkbike Workshop DCNLandUSA
The document summarizes presentations and discussions from a ThinkBike workshop in Washington DC focused on improving bicycling infrastructure. Teams proposed designs for bike lanes and cycle tracks on M Street, L Street, I Street, 4th Street and P Street. Recommendations included continuous bi-directional separated bikeways, unique intersection treatments, and connecting to the regional trail network. Outreach, education and enforcement strategies were also discussed to promote bicycling in the city.
This document provides recommendations for improving bicycle infrastructure and encouraging cycling in Washington DC. It recommends designing a comprehensive bicycle network with flagship routes like M and L Streets that have protected bike lanes and priority signaling. Other recommendations include traffic calming on routes like I Street, improved access to trails, and policies like education, enforcement, and incentives to promote cycling safety and ridership.

Canadian forces played a pivotal role in liberating the Netherlands from Nazi occupation 65 years ago. Over 7,600 Canadians died in the nine months it took to free the country. The Dutch people view Canadian veterans as heroes and have expressed their gratitude and remembrance over the years, greeting liberators with parades and celebrations in 1945, 1980, and 2010. Remembrance of World War II and the heroism of Canadian liberators is important to both countries, with stories passed down through generations in the Netherlands. A recent conference in Ottawa discussed how to foster remembrance in younger generations. The Dutch ambassador emphasizes that the Dutch will never forget the bravery and sacrifice of their Canadian liberators.

The document compares the sustainability efforts of two urban development projects: Treasure Island in San Francisco and IJburg in Amsterdam. It describes how each project established criteria or "dashboards" to evaluate the sustainability of designs. The Treasure Island dashboard included levels to measure energy integration and renewable energy goals. The IJburg dashboard assessed strategies and achievements in areas like energy, water, ecology, and established new goals and partnerships for IJburg II. The document aims to share best practices between the two cities.

15. Beeldgebruik: fotografie tenzij…
