Jeannette M. Torres is offering an unpaid Spanish legal and simultaneous interpretation internship to Mr. Fabio David-Passos from February to August 2016, with the possibility of extending into the fall. The goal of the internship is to improve Mr. David-Passos' training conditions to become accredited and pass interpreter examinations by providing real-time practice in legal terminology and simultaneous interpreting techniques. The internship will include legal vocabulary building, observing simultaneous interpreting exercises, and accompanying a senior interpreter to interpretation sessions at various legal and social services agencies.

Simultaneous Interpretation during both Spring and Summer 2016 (from Feb. to Aug., with possible Fall 2016
extension), in support of your continuous efforts and volunteering with The NYIC - New York Immigration Coalition,
The NYLAG - New York Legal Assistance Group and at The IHNY - International House New York Foundation,
especially for your Davis “Interpreting for Peace” Project candidacy.
The goal of such trainee-assistantship is to provide you with real time on-spot practice in Spanish legal
terminology and simultaneous conference interpreting techniques, in order to improve your NYIC/NYLAG training
conditions towards the B.I.A. - Board of Immigration Appeals accreditation as an attorney-at-law/paralegal,
immigration advocate and, above all, a Spanish-qualified legal language interpreter, in addition to your English and
French-Portuguese mother tongues. Besides, and most importantly, preparing yourself for State Court Interpreter
Examinations, as you have tried in Connecticut and will soon attend in New Jersey.
The mentorship will include legal vocabulary and glossary building, „shadowing‟ simultaneous interpreting
exercises and Senior Interpreter accompaniment/escorting to interpretation sessions at the NYCHA - New York City
Housing Authority and the Department of City Planning, among other possible private firms, public social service
agencies or hospitals to broaden the scope of the legal interpreting practice, which may be scheduled anytime in
addition to the your services provided to interpretation agencies and litigation companies we are both already affiliated
with, such as US Legal Support, B&N Legal Interpreting and Trustforte Translations, for which you shall also continue
receiving mentorship.

-National Association of Judicial Interpreters & Translators and IMIA - International Medical Interpreters Association,
