The graduate certificate is designed for
professionals who are looking to help
their organization understand (through
visualization) and leverage the massive
amounts of diverse data they collect.
Practitioners and students interested
in improving their current skills in data
manipulation and visualization, as well
as individuals who want to explore a new
career in visualization will benefit greatly
from this program.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
REQUIRED COURSES FOR THE CERTIFICATE INCLUDE:
• EM 622 Data Analysis & Visualization Technology for Decision Making
• EM 623 Data Science & Knowledge Discovery in Engineering Management
• EM 624 Informatics for Engineering Management
• SYS 660 Decision & Risk Analysis
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
• Develop knowledge of Python for decision making applications
• Understanding of data mining and knowledge extraction from data and text
• Understanding of risk and its effect on decision-making
• Exposure to latest decision-making techniques
• Knowledge on manipulating a dataset and its visualization
• Experience in designing, implementing and analyzing simple real world scenarios
Big or small, data is a universal priority in today’s world.
Finance, healthcare, defense and media are examples of
industries that constantly collect and analyze data sets to
extract valuable information, and subsequently require tools
that can disseminate the information simply and accurately.
Through data exploration and visualization, large amounts
of complex information can be communicated clearly via
graphic designs. Visuals are simpler to understand, have
a stronger impact, are engaging for a wider audience, and
significantly improve comprehension, communication and
decision-making.
To address the growing need for qualified data analysts and
visualizers, the Engineering Management Division at Stevens
InstituteofTechnologyisofferingagraduatecertificatein Data
Exploration and Visualization for Risk and Decision-Making.
The certificate will introduce students to the latest data
manipulation, extraction and visualization techniques
that can enhance their decision-making and risk-
analysis skills.
The certificate will cover modern techniques
in data analysis and visualization, data science
and knowledge discovery, informatics, and
decision and risk analysis. Students will get
hands-on-experience with basic data manipulation
techniques such as pivot tables, summaries and data
cleaning.
