Betsey O'Hagan (Merkel) Recommendation Letter 2000
This is my favorite recommendation written by colleague Dr. Paul Gothard III, Professor of Music, Lake Erie College. Paul and I worked together over many years to build a well loved monthly concert program in combination with regional and international performing artists on the campus of Lake Erie College. Together, the Coryton Ensemble and the LEC Department of Music commissioned and premiered the new works of global and local composers. To the delight of local audiences, the historic and acoustically renowned Morley Music Hall on campus became a welcome performance home for an ensemble of musicians from across Northeast Ohio.

1. Re: Letter of Recommendation on Darryl Cathey, World Dignity Records Production
Date: November 12, 2015
Darryl Cathey was hired to complete a 15 week music program for the Villa of Hope on
September 12, 2013. This is his 3rd
year with the Villa Of Hope. Darryl also provided the IT on
computer software and hardware in this program, Darryl Cathey was an inspiration to the youth
and staff and demonstrated outstanding ability in mentoring youth, teaching the fundamentals of
music, developing performance skills, educating youth on various life skills as it relates to music,
composing, musical arrangements, and prepared the youth for a performance in front of their
family, staff, and peers. Darryl provided the youth and the Recreation Department with CD's of
their songs and musical arrangements created during this program. Darryl demonstrated
professionalism, great work ethic, flexibility and the ability to be able to work with all styles of
music and cultural backgrounds. He challenged youth to move out of their comfort zones, built
their self-esteems, and brought the best out of each student. Darryl also provided a fun-filled,
therapeutic, education driven atmosphere in which the youth were able to verbalize various
musical principles they learned throughout the program. He also included staff in the projects
and worked as an Engineer, Producer, Composer, and Great Team Player making everyone
involved feel comfortable and equally important as an intricate part of the success of the
projects developed throughout this production. Darryl Cathey also assisted in several of our
major events in which he provided the sound and music for the Mayor’s event, Villa of Hope’s
Annual Banquet every year since his hire date, supported and provided accompaniment for
youth during performances at off campus events, and has continued to mentor youth in our
Liberal Arts Program with spoken word, poetry, and drama providing critical instruction for
recording and effective, artistic self expression along with a CD.
The Villa of Hope has continued to be thankful for his services and expertise as well as
completely satisfied with Darryl Cathey's Music Program. We would recommend him for all of
the above sited, etc, and we are confident that he will be an asset to all who are seeking a well-
rounded, skilled musical expert with great compassion for music and people that can teach
others on all levels and backgrounds. We look forward to continuing working with Darryl Cathey
on future projects.
