Advanced Materials International Forum, Bari 18-19 settembre, conferenza internazionale dedicata ai materiali avanzati e alle loro possibili applicazioni nei settori industriali, con un focus particolare sui trasporti (aerospazio, automotive, navale e cantieristico).
Contract Engineering Services is a unique resource. For over 20 years, we have provided engineered solutions to a diverse clientele of businesses and professionals working in manufacturing, optical instruments, medical devices, and consumer products.
We “speak the language” of manufacturers, inventors, researchers and product developers who need engineering support – in product design, production/equipment selection, and patent development.
We listen to our clients – then apply our SolidWorks CAD, FEA, Rapid Prototyping – and a wealth of practical industry experience – to provide our clients with the resources of an “in house” engineering department, without adding onsite staff.
Call or email us to start a gratis discussion of your problems and objectives. Let’s see if we can be of help to you.
Engineer / inventor with PMP credentials from experience expediently launching new, and derivative, electro-mechanical products as well as manufacturing processes within the automotive, appliance, and industrial inductries.

EMPLOYMENT
Leidos / Science Application International Corporation (SAIC), Orlando Florida 4/08 to present
Senior Optical Engineer:
Designed high performance optical delivery and detection systems for infantry and vehicle
MILES simulators.
Improved range performance to meet demanding customer requirements through the optical
design of a polymer collection cluster to increase optical gain.
Redesigned Small Arms Transmitter and Main Gun Laser assemblies to improve
performance while reducing manufacturing alignment time and cost.
Developed Production test fixtures and procedures to support optical alignment and testing
of products.
As Laser Safety Officer I evaluated laser products, interfaced with DOD and FDA agencies
to file Laser Product reports, developed an operational plan for Engineering and Production
facilities and trained personnel in the safe use of laser products.
OSI Defense Sytems: Orlando, Florida 9/03-3/08
Director of Engineering:
Managed a multi-functional Engineering Department of 16 technical people in multiple
locations.
Planned engineering resources, scheduled projects, assisted in technical proposals, hired
employees, and interfaced with customers to support contract requirements.
In addition to my management responsibilities, I continued to support the company’s
requirements for optical engineering.
Senior Electro-Optical Engineer:
Designed beam delivery optics for infrared laser simulators used in military training.
Successfully improved performance for LAW and RPG simulators using holographic
elements to reshape the laser energy distribution.
Created an in-barrel laser pistol simulator with multiple focus zones, to meet product
performance requirements.
Supported existing products, designed production test fixtures, and created test procedures.
Designed a multiple laser transmitter to simulate the “hot missile” capability of a helicopter
system while still maintaining a Class 1 laser product.
My position as laser safety officer included overseeing, approving, and filing reports with
the FDA.
LaserSight Technolgies: Orlando, Florida 6/00-3/03
Senior Optical Engineer: Managed a team of both internal and external hardware design
personnel in the development of a state of the art diagnostic workstation for the ophthalmic
industry. The workstation combines the measurement capabilities of a corneal topographer and
pachymeter that included pupil diameter measurements of the eye for both photopic and
scotopic lighting conditions.

I designed the optical assemblies for the corneal topographer and the slit projection system for
the optical pachymeter. Early design concepts of the workstation incorporated a wavefront
measurement system using Shack-Hartman technology.
Geltech Incorporated: Orlando, Florida 1997-2000
Optical Engineer: Designed custom, diffraction limited, aspheric lenses for multiple operating
wavelength applications to meet customer requirements. This position included interfacing with
customers to determine design specifications, creating and optimizing lens elements to meet
design requirements, mechanical design of diamond turned mold tooling, and performance
verification of design using interferometers. Other achievements include the design of test
fixturing, the fabrication of custom test measurement geometries, and the creation of a
documentation system for the company.
PSC/ LazerData Corporation: Orlando, Florida 1993-1997
Senior Optical Engineer:
Managed and scheduled multiple development projects for both new barcode products and
special product applications. In addition to project management, I managed the LazerData
documentation department including both new product design and the support of existing
product documentation. My primary development project was a high performance, software
reconstruction, barcode reader, utilizing multiple focus zones to generate market-leading
performance.
Designed and developed a cost effective, modular laser light source using beam truncation
techniques, to increase performance and reliability. The new laser module reduced cost,
minimized package size, increased performance, and significantly increased reliability
compared with the existing laser rail design. The new laser module was incorporated into
multiple barcode products.
Allen-Bradley Company: Milwaukee, Wisconsin 1990-1993
Project Engineer: Managed and created the optical design and layout, and the development of
Allen-Bradley’s first solid state barcode scanner from initial concept through production. This
product led the performance envelope in the low-end industrial scanner market by delivering
superior read distances on all barcode symbologies.
Electro / LazerData Corporation: Sarasota/ Orlando, Florida 1988–1990
Optics Group Supervisor: As part of the acquisition team, I supervised and reorganized the
Skan-A-Matic barcode products engineering group after relocation from New York State. As
group supervisor, I interfaced with marketing to assist in future product development, estimated
special products cost, scheduled development projects, provided a liaison between engineering
and manufacturing, and mentored and evaluated group personnel. My technical
accomplishment included the design and development of the optics for a miniature barcode
scanner using visible laser diode technology.
