2. MARKET ANALYSIS:
Key benchmark indices edged higher as European stocks rose on relief over weekend regional elections
in Spain and as trading US index futures indicated recovery in US stocks at the opening bell.
The BSE Sensex was up 107.80 points or 0.58% to 18,790.11. The index jumped 126.97 points at the
day's high of 18,809.28 in late trade, its highest level since 12 October 2012.
The S&P CNX Nifty was up 30.40 points or 0.53% to 5,714.65, as per provisional figures.
From the 30-share Sensex pack, 20 stocks rose while the rest of them fell.
Index heavyweight and cigarette maker ITC declined 1.53% to Rs 292.95. Index heavyweight Reliance
Industries (RIL) rose 1.43% to Rs 814.70, L&T rose 2.19% to Rs 1668.50 after good Q2 results. The
stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 1674.20 in intraday trade today, 22 October 2012. UltraTech Cement
rose 0.67% after the company on Saturday, 20 October 2012, said its profit after tax jumped 97.13% to
Rs 550 crore on 20.26% growth net sales to Rs 4700 crore in Q2 September 2012 over Q2 September
2011. Bank of Baroda dropped 1.74% as the state-run bank's ratio of gross non-performing assets
(NPA) to gross advances edged up to 1.98%.
