My 32 year career with IBM / Hitachi / HGST has been in the HDD (Hard Disk Drive)
Manufacturing Engineering (ME) organization. I have been blessed to work with a diverse world
wide team with members from several countries including Japan, Singapore, Thailand, England,
Germany, and the United States. My responsibilities have been broad and often challenging. Listed
below is a brief summary of major responsibilities over the years in descending chronological order.
- Manufacturing System Management For Enterprise Products: Update and maintain HDD &
SSD manufacturing systems for new product introductions and current products to assure precise
configuration and customer unique control. Work with IT for new system features as needed.
- HDD Production Equipment Team Lead: Provide team direction to HDD tooling engineers,
oversee and organize new product line introductions, and coordinate capital plans and schedules
for new production line introductions.
- Early Manufacturing Involvement Team Lead: Work directly with manufacturing tooling
engineers, the manufacturing sites, and product development engineers to influence new product
development for manufacturing efficiency and quality gains.
- Prime ME For Product E/C Review and Manufacturing Process Documentation: Coordinate
product engineering change reviews with ME personnel and grant ME approval after closure.
Administer Process Change Notice (PCN) system, and review/approve all PCN’s for ME org.
- Manufacturing Task Force Lead and/or ME Rep. For Many Key Issues Over The Years
- 339X HDD Manufacturing Line Integration: Work with all involved engineering groups to
integrate automated workstation, automated conveyor, data acquisition and control systems in
the first IBM fully automated HDD assembly and test manufacturing line.
