Dwight Lyman Moody grew up poor after his father died when he was young, leaving his mother to support nine children. After moving to Chicago, he felt called to religious work and began teaching Sunday school, which grew rapidly. He eventually chose to dedicate his life fully to religious work, founding a large center in Chicago and becoming a famous preacher who influenced hundreds of thousands of people in the United States and abroad. Though successful, Moody remained humble and honest about money, trusting God to provide for his family as he had for his ministry.
