Hansel and Gretel slept in a cave after becoming lost in the woods. While in the cave, they saw a bat flying overhead and were initially scared. However, they observed the bat go to sleep above them, tired from hunting all night. The story teaches that bats live in caves and can sometimes bite people, so one should be careful around them, though bats usually do not bite humans. In the end, the children learned about bats and what they saw in the cave.
