Recent cyber attacks on Pakistani financial institutions have caused major disruptions and exposed vulnerabilities. Several banks withdrew international debit card facilities after card details were found for sale online. Such attacks are a growing threat as more banking moves online and systems become interconnected. While online payments and digital banking have grown in Pakistan, regulations and security systems have not kept up, leaving consumers and businesses reluctant to fully adopt digital options. Coordinated responses across agencies and countries are needed to investigate attacks and strengthen security protections to maintain confidence in digital financial systems.
