Computer literacy in Bangladesh is steadily on the rise. There is also a growing number of Internet users; cellular phone is widespread and so is accessibility of technology like SMS. While even a few years ago computers were vastly used as digital ‘typewriters’, they are now being employed to maintain accounts worth tens of millions of takas and more importantly, in storing useful information.
The concept of a Digital Bangladesh is welcomed by the IT professionals and the general mass. To fuel this notion the government must give due importance to the matter of cybercrime. Otherwise, like many other positive initiatives this will fall on its face. It is a matter of hope that the “National Information and Information Technology Guidelines 2009” has included Cybercrime as an agenda. To make this a success the Ministry of Information Technology, along with the IT professionals and the media must come forward.

Why aren't Evaluators using Digital Media Analytics?CesToronto
Whether it’s through blogs, tweets, or even the comments section of an online newspaper, the world is increasingly talking online. However, the potential uses for the massive amounts of information available on the internet remain largely untapped in the sphere of evaluation.
This presentation will explore innovative methods to extract these insights from the large and complex collections of digital data publicly available online. In particular, we will examine the unprecedented uses, and potential limitations, of digital media analytics to:
• Measure the outcomes of public outreach, advocacy, communications, and information sharing programs;
• Establish current and retroactive baselines;
• Conduct “borderless” data collection to gain insights from other countries, as well as disapora communities in Canada;
• Identify unknown stakeholder groups and create detailed stakeholder maps; and,
• Provide context and insight to inform further data collection.

Social Media Boot Camp For Government ContractorsMichael Hackmer
Businesses have a hard enough time developing successful social media strategies. The challenge facing government contractors, who are trying to connect and build relationships, without violating agency rules and protocols, is an even more daunting task.
However, the opportunity to deliver valuable information to and engage online with key stakeholders in the government through social media channels is a significant one.
During a recent Webinar with James Baker of James Baker Consulting, and Edward Saltzberg, President of ERS Advisors, I had the opportunity to talk about what steps government contractors need to take as they seek to use social media as part of their business development and marketing engagement strategy with government agencies.

Things That Don't Matter in Your Presentation!Ayman Sadiq
We often spend hours together on stuffs that don’t really matter in your next presentation. You need to unclutter, focus, provide insight and yes, tell a story to convey the big idea. When you stop wasting time on the things that don’t really add any value to you presentation, we finally start adding proper value to the message and objective of your presentation. So here goes a list of things on which you should not even spend a minute. Cheers!
We have been using storytelling to share our thoughts and feelings ever since flat screen televisions meant clay tablets and cave walls. Stories move us; they inspire us. And that is why your 110th presentation should not just include data. Because data might persuade people to consider your idea for a while, but it won’t inspire them to act; to do that, you need to drape your vision in a story that makes your audience think: “Hey! I can picture myself in his shoes!” Your story should fire their imagination and make them come alive- because a story has a key to that special place where mundane quantitative data is denied entry: our hearts.

Screw You Bullet Points! [Rest in Peace]Ayman Sadiq
Even when you are preparing a slide and filling it with bullet-points, you know you are being a lazy-ass. Because, let’s face it, there’s just so much more that you could use in lieu of a ton of bullet points (I mean literally ‘a ton’, they’re all over the place!). Half of the audience won’t even be listening to what you have got to say and will simply read the points (completely ignoring your words in the process). If you don’t want your audience to tune out of your presentation and label you as ‘BORING’, play around a bit with cool info-graphics, icons and illustrations and make them go: ‘Whoa!’

An Infographics on How to Make InfographicsAyman Sadiq
Information graphics or infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge. These graphics present complex information quickly and clearly, such as in signs, maps, journalism, technical writing, and education. With an information graphic, computer scientists, mathematicians, and statisticians develop and communicate concepts using a single symbol to process information.
With the trend of using the internet to convey information to millions of people worldwide, it also becomes a challenge on how you can effectively communicate to the people with your contents. Making one’s content eye-catching and easy to understand is not an easy task. You need to dig deeper into a topic and look for ways to present it in a manner that you could outshine your competitors. It is not just you who have thought of writing or presenting a particular topic. There are thousands of people who are also posting the same. The challenge is for you to make it unique and more attractive. This is where infographics come in. Infographics are visual representations of information, data or knowledge. It is an important tool in teaching, in business, in giving inspiration and in presenting information. It is one of the most powerful ways to communicate with complex data.

ICT Implementation in The Education Sector of BangladeshAyman Sadiq
To make the best use of information technology, educational institutions need a workable plan to fully integrate it into all aspects of the curriculum so students are taught how, why, and when to use technology. How technology is utilized in the curriculum and managed by teachers will have an important role to play in widening the resource and knowledge base for all students.
Previously, the use of ICT was limited to private sector education only but it is no longer restricted to private sector education owing to the government efforts. The Government of Bangladesh in an effort to harness the power of ICT formulated its National ICT Policy in year 2002. To implement its policies, the government of Bangladesh has sought the help of UNDP and USAID to use its access to information (a2i) program for the development of the education sector. Access to information (a2i) program aims to make teaching and learning more effective and enjoyable for both students and teachers using ICTs. The most remarkable transformation was empowerment of teachers who were trained to create multimedia content independently, rather than depending on curriculum and multimedia experts. The government soon sought a2i’s support to design a USD 40 million educational transformation program to establish MMCs in over 23,000 secondary schools, madrassas and junior colleges and train nearly 70,000 teachers by 2014.
To better understand how information systems are used in educational institutes, three cases were analyzed. In Adamjee Cantonment College, almost all the aspects of the college are currently under single information system software that ensures all the aspects of the college is going as per schedule. The college makes apt use of biometric identification, communication through text messages and intends to make us of OMR reader, E-payment service and attendance management systems. In the e-learning site Shikkok.com, online tutorials are provided to facilitate free online education and high-quality courses in Bengali language to rural and disadvantaged students in Bangladesh and India. Onnorokom Pathshala, another case considered, is trying to come up with an android app to cater to the mobile internet market. So far they are providing their services through their Youtube channel.
Pavilion - The First Bengali Sports WebsiteAyman Sadiq
In keeping up with the present world, the websites of Bangladesh are making great progress among the vast majority of Bangla speaking internet users. Bangla news websites, blogs are steadily creating dominance over their counterparts at print media. But you will notice that despite having numerous sports fan among the internet users in Bangladesh, we do not have any renowned and dedicated Bangla sports website online. That is what made the initiators of Pavilion drive towards developing a website dedicated to sports in our mother language.

Factors Affecting Investment Decisions in the Stock ExchangeAyman Sadiq
Stock markets always play a crucial role in the growth and stability of a country's economy. The development of the stock market encourages capital accumulation, efficient use of resources and promotion of economic growth. The rise of stock market can increase opportunities for investment and expansion for industries, thus creating more jobs and increasing the purchasing capacity of the people. On the other hand, stock market crashes throughout history have caused economic slowdowns, recessions, unemployment, curbed consumer spending etc. In basic terms, when people choose to invest their savings into the stock market instead of keeping the money at home, the funds become an active part of the economy as they become available to industries for use in productive purposes. In Bangladesh, the total market capitalization or worth of all the companies listed on Dhaka Stock Exchange alone stands at an impressive $50 billion.
However, in Bangladesh experienced massive downturns in the stock exchange in 2010. The predominantly bullish market (characterized by large and powerful investors) turned bearish (characterized by loss of investor confidence and a consistent decline in the value of stocks). Millions of small investors lost millions in equity and it is popular belief that the whole incident was a scam and resulted from government negligence.
As such, the aim of this paper was to search for the factors that affect the buying behavior of investors and to see whether investor choices were grounded in fact or fiction. As such, the research was conducted on a sample of 80 investors covering different demographic avenues ranging from age, years of education, monthly income, marital status and some other characteristics. The research team identified 6 broad factors of investment choices further broken down into small variables of measurement.
Price mechanism in the rmg industry of bangladeshAyman Sadiq
The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry occupies a unique position in the Bangladesh economy. It is the largest exporting industry in Bangladesh, which experienced phenomenal growth during the last 25 years.
The industry plays a key role in employment generation and in the provision of income to the poor. Nearly four million workers are directly and more than twelve million inhabitants are indirectly associated with the industry. Over the past twenty five years, the number of manufacturing units has grown from 180 to over 5000.
The sector has also played a significant role in the socio-economic development of the country. It continued to show robust performance, competitive strength and, of no less importance, social commitment. RMG’s contribution to Bangladesh economy is well-known, well-appreciated and well-respected.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
