A short film about a “normal” day in the
hood.Jamelis out with his friends when one
of them steals a camera from the window. As
this based in Coventry the police soon find
out and Jamal gets arrested. When released
and another is caught it causes an
unsettling with the gang.
Scene 1
Jamal is sleeping in his room. It is dark
and messy. The audience can see rizzlersand
a lot of clothes on the floor. There are
also texts books on his desk to suggest he
went to college. He rises and goes into
the bathroom. He looks at his reflection
and sighs. Quick shots of him shaving,
fixing his hair and brushing his teeth.
(Actor may need to grow stubble).
We see Jamal about to leave his house. It
is a small council house and there is a lot
of different alcohol containers in shot. (A
shot of an envelope containing benefits?).

2. Mother: (Unseen,whilst Jamel is leaving the
house) When you’re out pick me something to
drink, I’m not leaving the house today.
Jamal slams the door without answering.
Scene 2
Jamal has now joined his gang. They are all
laughing and causing mishap around the
area. All are there but Charlie. They are
passing round a spliff.
Gang member one: (jokily towards Ricky)
You’ve had that for ages fam when we’ve all
put too, pass it round you dick
Gang member two: Trust
Ricky reluctantly passes the spliff to gang
member one. He kicks over a bin as a
response. We see someone over the road look
over. It is Charlie. He is upset that he
hasn’t been told the boys are meeting up.
Ricky: (looking at Charlie) Oh not that
wasteman. Has he been following us or
summit.
Charlie: (Trying to act like he hadn’t
heard) Hey lads, didn’t know we were
meeting tonight.
Knowing that Jamal doesn’t like it Gang
member one still passes the spliff to Jamal
out of respect. He doesn’t take a drag.

3. Jamal: Who wants this?
None of the other boys respond knowing that
Jamal doesn’t like them smoking weed in the
open. Charlie looks up eagily as if no one
else wants it he thinks he can finish it.
Him and Jamal make eye contact but Jamal
throws it on the floor and steps on it.
Charlie and Jamal havn’t liked each other
for a while.
Charlie: I’ll roll the next one
Whilst this has been happening Ricky had
left the gang and he comes back with a
Nikon camera.
Jamal: (looking concerned) Oi, where have
you got that from?
Ricky: (laughing and taking pictures of
himself) Shit, this was just there, in a
window, and and the window was open. Who
would do that? How could I not take it?
Look at it, it’s a Nikon!
Charlie: (Smiling) Shit, Ricky! We could
sell that for loads!
Ricky: We? You wasteman. I’m keeping all of
it for myself. (Laughs)
The other gangs members have joined in with
the laughter
Jamal: Fuck, it shouldn’t of been that
easy? Which house? We need to get out of
here. They were probably coming back. If

4. them people have noticed the police will
already be close.
Sirens. There is a chorus of the boys
cursing and they all start to run.
Jamal: See this is Cov! Police are
ridiculous here!
All the boys run in different directions
and Ricky in a panic throws the camera.
After running for a while Charlie and Jamal
have hidden behind a wall.
Jamal: (almost mumberling) Shit, I thought
we stopped getting ourselves into
situations like this
Charlie: (Panicking) Do you reckon we have
lost them?
In audiable speaking from the police
Jamal: Nah, I can still here them. They
have been waiting for an exuse to punish us
for ages.
Charlie: Check which way they are going so
we can go the opposite way
Jamal shakes his head
Charlie: C’mon pussy, you’re closer ,it
will be easier for you to look.
Jamal then nods, he takes a deep breathe
and quickly looks round the wall

5. Jamal: Shit they are close
Footsteps can be heard coming closer to the
boys. In a panic Charlie pushes Jamal out
from the wall in the view of the police
officer before making a run for it.
Jamal: Shit!
Police man: (Unseen voice over whilst there
shot of Charlie running away) You have the
right to remain silent. Anything you say
can and will be used against you in a court
of law. You have the right to speak to an
attorney. If you cannot afford one, an
attorney will be provided at no expense to
you. You have the right to not answer
questions at any time and request an
attorney be present before any questioning
continues. Do you understand these rights?
Jamal has been arrested.
Scene 3
Shot of the outside of the police station
Police man: (Voice over) Do you know what
crime has been commited?
Stealing is serious.
We want to get rid of you and your gang.
Do you know how much this can mess up your
life?
Answer me!

6. Did you steal the camera?
(Angrier) Did you steal the camera?
Whilst the voice over is going on a couple
of seconds are filmed of the outside of the
police station and then we see Jamal walk
out from it. There are a couple of shots of
him walking down roads before we see him
meet up with Jade (his girlfriend). They
embrace, and you can see Jamal is relieved.
Scene 4
There is a shot of a policeman picking up a
camera, he wipes off some dirt. He turns it
on and flicks through some photos. We see
snap shots of Ricky.
Scene 5
All of this scene is done by filming of
phone messeges and reaction shots. We
establish that the gang know that Jamal has
escaped and Ricky has been arrested. The
gang thinks Jamal has snaked on him.
