This document discusses OpenStack telemetry using Ceilometer and Heat. It presents an overview of Ceilometer for collecting data from OpenStack services and publishing it. Heat is introduced for orchestrating complex systems. The document proposes integrating Ceilometer alarms with Heat to allow Heat to scale systems based on alarm thresholds from Ceilometer metrics. A demonstration of this integration is outlined. The document was created by Amir Trabelsi, Mohamed Bouhamed, Ghasen Selmi, and Mohamed Chams Eddine Mouedhen.
Laiki Bank expanded rapidly in recent years through acquisitions and new branches, but this complex international expansion proved difficult to manage effectively. Risks accumulated from issues like losses on investments in Greece and Romania, problematic loans, and inadequate supervision. When the financial crisis hit, these risks materialized as the bank suffered billions in losses and required a government capital injection in 2012. Ultimately, bankruptcy was inevitable, leading to an unprecedented EU-forced plan splitting the bank's accounts in an attempt to protect smaller depositors while imposing losses on larger depositors and businesses. The document warns that risks will emerge if rapid expansion outpaces available funds and supervision.

The document discusses startups and provides information for those considering starting one. It defines a startup as a company designed to search for a scalable and repeatable business model. Successful startup ideas are often disruptive to existing markets or create new markets. To validate an idea, one may need to do market research to assess the idea, revenue potential, and growth potential. A startup requires a prototype and funding sources include angel investors and venture capital firms who invest in exchange for equity. Most startups fail due to not producing a product on time, inability to monetize the idea, or being beaten by competitors.

1. Debra Ann Weeks, Ph.D.
dweeks99@yahoo.com
OBJECTIVE
I would like to apply my extensive industry experience, educational background, organizational skills
and creative problem-solving abilities in a technical or educational management position.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Diagnostic Product Development: Singulex, Inc., Alameda, CA (2013-2014)
I was the lead on multiple projects, including coordinating with the Director of Engineering and Vice
President of Research to design and develop the next generation assay chemistry and instrumentation.
I developed, verified, validated and documented key raw material and component performance
characteristics on the current product formulation and, within the R&D and Development Groups,
identified and validated alternate chemistries, instrumentation and sources. I was a technical resource
in my department for data interpretation, experimental design and reagent chemistries, and trained
technical personnel; emphasizing elevated safety training and awareness. I have managed the
personnel selection process for several recent hires and have developed technical supervisorial staff. I
organized and managed collaborations with outside vendors and consultants. I have written several
comprehensive Technical Reports, contributed heavily to several other Technical Reports and wrote
numerous White Papers on pertinent technological and interpretive topics.
Consultant: Specializing in Project Management & Process Validation (2009-present)
I have had several confidential contracts with companies and non-profit organizations in California
and Australia. My responsibilities have included generating study reports for novel products and their
intermediates, developing new applications for the proprietary technology, formalizing analytical
procedures and designing a new laboratory facility. I wrote an assessment for monitoring and dredging
in the vicinity of the Great Barrier Reef and developed methods to clarify biogeochemical issues and
formulated recommendations for addressing these issues.
Senior R&D Project Leader: Queensland Alumina, Ltd. Gladstone, Australia (2006-2008)
I successfully led 4 major projects budgeted in excess of $1 Million and contributed to many others.
My initial project involved an apparently intractable problem that had the potential to shut down the
plant; I was quickly able to determine the root cause and to further develop process control elements to
prevent recurrence. All of my project proposals were funded; several on the first submission. I trained
and supervised 7 new engineers and several experienced chemists and technicians; two went on to
present our project work at an international conference. I also designed and implemented new
analytical techniques, produced oral and written progress reports to clients and managed academic and
industry collaborations. My broad background in chemical research and planning, extensive project
management experience and outstanding communication skills resulted in consistent on-time and
within budget achievement.
2. Assistant Professor of Chemistry: University of Hawai’i at Hilo, HI (2003-2006)
I doubled retention in General Chemistry and increased the number of seats offered by over 60% with
no budget increase. I contributed to a significant increase in minority retention in the sciences at UHH,
acquired funding for analytical instruments for student use, improved safety and student access in
laboratories and designed a new, advanced, course in Environmental Chemistry. I provided detailed
course syllabi for my students and assured that my courses met all accreditation requirements. I
developed and instituted Peer Mentoring for the Keaholoa Program which was subsequently employed
as a model for campus-wide peer tutoring. I was nominated by my peers and students for 4 system-
wide teaching awards. I supervised graduate and undergraduate research projects concerning an
arsenic-contaminated site, phytoplankton pigments, copper in seawater and mercury deposition. These
included the development and documentation of a range of analytical techniques, including ICP-ES,
HPLC, FIA and FAAS.
Assistant Professor of Chemistry: Maine Maritime Academy, Castine, Maine (2002-2003) full time
I taught General Chemistry, Engineering Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Oceanography. I
supervised undergraduate research projects concerning copper contamination at a local EPA
Superfund site and another project to monitor bacterial load from a local waste treatment plant.
Research Associate & Teaching Assistant: University of California at Santa Cruz (1995-2002)
I designed, built and programmed a novel, sensitive analytical instrument that employed Flow
Injection Analysis and fiber optics to measure dissolved iron species in seawater. Laboratory work
required trace-metal clean sampling and laboratory techniques, and I performed organic synthesis to
produce column components and some reagents that could not be acquired commercially in a trace-
metal clean condition. I planned and executed my contribution to five 2-3 week-long off-shore
research cruises to sample and analyze seawater for dissolved macro- and micro-nutrients. I also
optimized an electrochemical analysis system, developed a spreadsheet to handle the large data sets we
produced and set up a system to produce low trace metal seawater for the lab. I taught instrumental
analysis techniques in a graduate/undergraduate level laboratory course as well as undergraduate
chemistry courses that included thermodynamics, kinetics and General Chemistry Labs.
