CUSD-CUTA Bargaining Update
- 1. Bargaining Update April 5, 2012 Proposals Exchanged, Next Session Scheduled for April 19 CUSD and CUTA met on Thursday, April 5th. CUTA presented a package proposal that included the following components: Change number of 3D days from 3 to 5. 3D Days are defined in the contract as use of accumulated sick leave for “personal business” at the unit member’s discretion (Article 15.7.2.1) Elementary prep time Involuntary transfer language Combined Bachelor’s Degree and Master Degree credits for initial placement on salary schedule 3 Student contact furlough days in 2012-13 with restoration language Agreement to pay for 100% of CUTA Presidential release time is “under consideration” CUSD countered with a package proposal consisting of the following: 7 furlough days in 2012-13 10 furlough days in 2013-14 Contingency language regarding potential midyear reductions in 2012-13 or 2013-14 to reduce up to 16 additional workdays if needed CUTA pays 100% of Presidential release time Agreement on proposed change in elementary prep time language Agreement on proposed BA/MA credits Side letter with agreement that any voluntary transfer candidates for Sage Creek will be interviewed for openings Upon agreement of above items, CUSD would rescind all layoff notices other than those needed based on Board-approved changes related to class size at Carlsbad High School and Carlsbad Village Academy, the certificated librarian and a part-time psychologist Unfortunately no agreement was reached. While CUSD would prefer to continue negotiating in advance of the scheduled layoff hearings that are scheduled for April 17-18, CUTA has indicated that their next available date is April 19. CUSD is looking forward to another productive exchange of proposals on April 19th.
