CSWDC is an independent business owned by Coventry City Council (66%), Solihull
Metropolitan Borough Council (33%) and Warwickshire County Council (1%). It is a single
site business, situated to the south of Coventry city centre.
The principal business activity is recovery of energy from waste, but it also operates a
Household Waste Recycling and Reuse Centre (HWRRC) at the same location. It is a £25M
turnover business and the energy recovery plant has a capacity of 270,000Te per annum.
Richard Gray who has been with CSWDC for eight and a half years,
will retire from the position of Managing Director at the end of
September and take up the role of Non Executive Chairman.
Richard succeeds Geoff Honeywell, who retires from the board of
directors after 23 years service.
Before joining the company Richard spent 32 years in the chemical
industry, initially with ICI and then Courtaulds plc. He currently serves
on the board of the Environmental Services Association, holding the
position of Treasurer.
Richard is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of
Mechanical Engineers and a Member of the Chartered Institution of
Wastes Management.
Richard will be replaced as Managing Director of CSWDC by Karl
Starkey, who joins from FCC Environment where he is currently
General Manager of the Energy from Waste facility at North
Hykeham in Lincolnshire. Previously Karl was General Manager of
FCC’s Eastcroft EfW facility in Nottingham.
Karl’s early career was with the Royal Navy and prior to coming into
the waste industry he spent 15 years in operational roles in gas
turbine power generation.
He is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Energy Institute.
