society” - Howard R. Bowan
Corporate Social Responsibility is the obligations of a business firm to
contribute resources to solving social problems and work in a socially
desirable manner.

• Long term interest of the firm – If a
firm wants to stay in business for long
it must stay away from unfair practices
or it will lose its customer base.
• Avoidance of Government Regulations
– If the firms actions are against the
law, then the govt. will close down the
business.
• Maintenance of the Society – The
firm preserve and develop the society
it works in.
• Availability of excess resources with
some business – Some multi-million
dollar firm can spent a margin of their
surplus for the benefit of their workers
like day care centers for female
employees.
• Violation of Profit Maximization
Objective – CSR involves
additional cost which will affect
the cost of the product and
ultimately the profit.
• Burden on Consumers – No
business bears the burden of
increased expenses, thus the
additional costs shifts on the
consumers.
• Lack of skill required to solve

problems.
