Cross International Catholic Outreach But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish. Psalm 9:1 By: Janelle Guan
About Us Cross International Catholic Outreach is a Catholic relief and development organization that provides food, shelter, medical care, water, education, self-help programs, care for orphans, and emergency relief to the poorest of the poor around the world, all in the name of Christ.
In recognition that poverty ravages many areas of the world - victimizing families, children and the elderly, we dedicate ourselves to a ministry of relief and development to aid the poorest of the poor. Wherever possible, our work is not to sustain the needy, but rather to break the cycle of poverty that plagues them. By providing educational opportunities and by focusing on community development, we strive to make impoverished individuals and villages self-supporting. Rather than create new institutions to distribute aid, we will first seek to help existing ministries and churches already serving the poor. In addition to being the most cost-effective way of helping the poor, empowering these ministries allows us to support the Church's spiritual mission and its important position of leadership in poor communities. Through prayer, and in a spirit of obedience, we submit our work to God, seeking His inspiration and leading in everything we do. MISSION
We seek to provide food, clothing, shelter, medical care, education, economic opportunities and other such blessings to the poorest of the poor. We seek to help the poor in Jesus’ name and for the glory of God. We seek to give priority to those churches and ministries which employ a community-oriented strategy in helping the poor and which increase the self-sufficiency of the poor. We seek to foster an exchange between the churches of the developing world and the churches of the U.S. and demonstrate respect for the vision of the churches and ministries with which we work We seek to maintain a high standard of excellence in our work, not sacrificing the quality of our work for the sake of quantity. And we seek to operate with integrity and honesty in respect to our donors and co-laborers. VALUES
Personal Connection I would always hear about the less fortunate people around the world who needed help because their ways of living have curtailed their lives and I have always dreamed about a way to help them out in some way, shape, or form. I know I can’t give all those people everything that I have, but I would like to know that I can help out as much as possible. This foundation lets me do that and to do it in God’s name makes it that much better for me as a practicing Catholic.
La Sagesse (Marie Louis Trichet) Learning Center La Sagesse (Marie Louis Trichet) Learning Center is a project in Manila, Philippines that provides an education, nutrition, and therapy to mentally or physically disabled children.
Input Donations -$33,000 annually ($150 per child) Material supplies: paper, pencils, pens, etc. Meals Volunteers to help with the children Any money that the families of the disabled children can spare And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. Matthew 18:5
Process Mentally or physically disabled children in the slums of the Philippines are taken into La Sagesse. We provide an education as well as nutritional and physical therapy to all children. -The children’s time are allotted as they attend one of three daily therapy sessions for three hours per session. -The children are fed nutritious meals to improve their health and hygiene. We teach these underprivileged children to think with a purpose . La Sagesse teaches these children how to read, write, and become contributing members of society. We want them to develop the ability to construct ideas through reading . Teaching them certain skills that they would never be able to learn out on the streets will hopefully help them to achieve goals that they may have.
Outputs Roughly 220 poor, special needs children are served A new and larger learning center is being built to serve more children There are many professional teachers and therapists to aid the children
Outcomes These poor, special needs children improve their health and altogether well-being. The number of special needs children left on the streets to die decreases. Poor parents receive the opportunity to give their special needs child a chance to succeed in life. These special needs children will no longer be “lost in the crowd.” (No longer neglected, ignored, or abused)
Community Need The community needs an educational system that serves poor children with special needs so that they have a chance to be a part of society instead of getting “lost in the crowd” and living in poverty. Manila is the most densely populated city in the world, and millions of people live in poverty, including children. Families in Manila’s slums are helpless to provide for their handicapped child — they can do little more than feed themselves on the meager incomes they earn, and therapy and special schools are simply out of the question. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
