My travels
We will travel to Naples, Italy on a plane from Raleigh, NC.
We are going to spend the whole two weeks seeing the beauty
of Naples.
We are going to visit the Historic Center, the Castel dell’Ovo,
Naples Underground, University Museums, Astronomical
Observatory, Museum of the Sea, the island of Sorrento,
National Archaeological Museum, visit Pompeii and
Herculaneum, the basement of the Church of San Lorenco
Maggiore, Museum of Musical History, Palazzo Reale, the
island of Capri, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Travel
• We will travel to Naples, Italy on
a plane with United Airways and
other airlines.
• We will leave Raleigh on Friday,
October 10, 2014 and arrive on
Saturday, October 11, 2014.
• We will leave Naples on
Saturday, October 25, 2014 and
arrive in Raleigh on Saturday,
October 25, 2015.

• Today we will be visiting the
Castel dell’Ovo.
• This castle is free to visit.
• It is considered the “Egg Castle
and is one of two in Naples.
• There is a Ethno-Prehistory
Museum inside the castle.
Monday, October 13, 2014
• Today we will be walking around the Naples Underground.
• This is the area underneath the Naples historic center.
• It includes ruins from Greed and Roman times.
• There are ruins of a Roman market and you can see where the streets and
buildings were at one point and what they might have looked like.
• Under the San Lorenzo you can see the storefronts with walls and ceilings.
• You also get a glimpse of what the Roman laundry and bakery looked like.

Museums.
• There are four museums and to
visit all of them it is $6.14.
• They are one of the oldest
museums in Europe, founded in
early 13th century.
• There is a Zoological Museum,
an Anthropological Museum, a
Minerals Museum, and a
Paleontology Museum.

• Today we will visit the
Astronomical Observatory.
• To visit it will be $5.50.
• It contains an important collection
of astronomical equipment and
apparatus’s.
• You can also observe the stars
though their observatory domes.

• Today we will visit the Museum
of the Sea.
• The museum contains historic
instruments used to navigate the
ocean.
• There are also many documents
like historic maps and atlases.

• Today we plan to take a boat over
to Sorrento.
• We will spend the day walking
around the towns and then
relaxing on the beach.

• Today we will visit the National
Archaeological Museum.
• The museum costs $8.87.
• There are lots of artifacts from
Pompeii and Herculaneum.
• There is also Roman art and
sculptures.
Sunday, October 19, 2014
Today we are going to visit Pompeii and
Herculaneum.
It is $15.05 to visit each.
We have to rent a car which will be $77.55 for a Fiat
Panda or similar through Hertz.
Pompeii
• Pompeii is one of the cities that
got covered by the eruption of
Mount Vesuvius.
• You are able to walk around the
preserved area that is buried
under more than 60 feet of ash
and pumice.
• You will be able to see the
commercial, religious, and political
center of the city.
• There is also glass-encased casts
of volcano victims.
Herculaneum
• This is another town that was
destroyed by the eruption of Mount
Vesuvius.
• It is smaller than Pompeii but the
area is very well preserved.
• It is less excavated than Pompeii.
• There are Roman baths, statues of
animals, and the library at the Villa
of the Papyri, which was the only
library to survive.
Rent a car
• We will have to rent a car from
hertz for the day to drive to
Pompeii and Herculaneum.
• We will be renting a Fiat Panda or
similar for $77.55.

Museum of Contemporary Art
also known as MADRE.
• It is free to visit on Mondays.
• It contains many antiquities and
priceless art.
• The museum contains both
Italian and international modern
artists.

• Today we are going to visit the
Museum of Musical History.
• It is the San Pietro a Majella
house.
• It is full of antique musical
instruments and materials that are
related to composers who lived in
Naples.
Wednesday,
October 22, 2014
• Today we are going to visit the
Palazzo Reale.
• It costs $5.46 to get in.
• Also known as the Royal Palace.
• It was one of homes used by the
Bourbon royalty in the mid-18th
century though the mid-19th
century.
Thursday, October 23,

• Today we will take a ferry over to
the island of Capri.
• There we will be able to visit a few
of the Roman villas, doing some
hiking or swimming, and visiting
the most famous natural landmark
called the Blue Grotto.
Friday, October 24,
2014
• Today we will spend the day
walking through the town and
picking up souvenirs.
• We will also make sure we are
packed and ready to leave.
Saturday October 25,
2014
• Sadly today we leave Naples.
• We board our plane at 8:15 a.m.
and will arrive back in Raleigh, NC
at 4:49 p.m.
Food
• We plan on eating at all sorts of
authentic and local places.
• The one that I know we will visit
at least once is the Pizzeria Da
Michele. It is a famous pizza
place from the movie “Eat Pray
Love”.

Conclusion
We had a wonderful time visiting Naples.
If we plan to go again we would like to visit some
more of the surrounding areas like Amalfi Coast, the
islands in the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, Greek
Ruins, Phlegraean Fields, Caserta, and Pozzuoli.
