Croesyceiliog School was looking to improve its performance management processes and CPD for staff. Information was stored in different places like paper folders, making it difficult to analyze. The school implemented the BlueSky system to store all documentation and information about staff performance management, lesson observations, and CPD electronically. This allows the school to more easily identify strengths and needs to strategically plan CPD. BlueSky also enabled staff to lead more in-house training sessions, reducing external courses. As a result of these improvements, the school saw its highest GCSE results in recent years in 2013.
Read how the elements of the Educator Effectiveness System--PD 360, Common Core 360, and Observation 360--helped this small-town school district improve teacher effectiveness by focusing on three areas: Common Core State Standards, teacher compliance training, and classroom technology.

In October 2012, School Improvement Network surveyed educators from across the nation to find out the use and effects of technology in classrooms. 6,929 educators from all 50 states shared how technology is being used in their classroom and how it’s affecting students. Among the findings, 48% of educators say they allow students to bring and use technology devices in their classroom, and 80% of educators believe technology in the classroom increases student performance. One in 3 educators email students as part of their learning platform, and of those, 75% say it affects their homework return rate.

This independent study, conducted by EdNexus Advisors, LLC, was sponsored by School Improvement Network to better understand each state policy on providing and funding meaningful teacher professional development tied to teacher evaluations. Further states were surveyed on the state relationship with districts on requiring or recommending professional development and to what extent districts were providing professional development tied to state mandated evaluations.

Supervision as a Determinant of Public Secondary School Teachers’ Effectivene...iosrjce
The study investigated supervision as a determinant of public secondary school teachers’
effectiveness in Central Senatorial District of Delta State. Seven research questions were raised and answered
and seven hypotheses were formulated and tested to guide the study. The study used the correlational research
design. A sample of 997 teachers was utilized for the study. The research instrument used for data collection
was the questionnaire titled teachers’ supervision and teachers’ effectiveness (TSTE) questionnaire. The data
collected were analyzed using simple percentage for the socio-demographic data and simple regression and
correlation statistics for the research questions and hypotheses. The seven hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level
of significance. The results revealed that there was a significant relationship between teachers’ supervision and
their teaching effectiveness, there was a significant relationship between teachers’ educational qualification and
their teaching effectiveness, and there was a significant relationship between teachers’ teaching experience and
their teaching effectiveness, hence supervision was seen as a vital and critical element of teaching effectiveness.

About the school
Croesyceiliog School caters for over 1500 pupils from
Cwmbran and surrounding areas in the county of
Torfaen. The school is set in sixty acres of woodland and
playing fields alongside the Afon Llwyd or Grey River.
The school’s 2012 GCSE results placed the school in Band
5. Fuelled to improve, 2013 saw the highest GCSE results
in recent memory. 81% of pupils gained Level 2 and 65%
including English and maths, improvements of 18% and
22% on the previous year.
What were the challenges?
Following a recommendation in the school’s 2011 Estyn
report, the then headteacher, restructured the roles
of the senior team giving greater focus on raising
standards and improving the quality of teaching and
learning.
As part of this restructuring, Deputy Headteacher
Matthew Hutt became responsible for CPD and began
streamlining the process by developing a system in
Microsoft Excel. At the time, performance management
was managed separately with staff collecting evidence
in folders. Forms were completed for lesson observations
with an electronic list kept of who had been observed.
Without linking the three, it was difficult to analyse
staff strengths, ensure robustness of performance
management or strategically plan CPD to effectively
meet staff need.
“We had begun to improve processes around staff
performance management and CPD but they still relied
on lots of paper. Attempts to tighten up performance
management were difficult with information in different
places and not stored electronically.”
