This document provides guidelines for underwriters on common medical conditions that could cause an application to be declined, delayed, or require further review. A history of asthma with steroid use within a year or asthma/COPD with smoking will be declined. Hypertension or high cholesterol controlled with one medication for over a year may be acceptable pending further documentation. Depressions may be acceptable if controlled with medication or counseling, while bipolar disorder requires more review. Non-insulin dependent diabetes in those over 55 without other issues may be reviewed. Family history details are only needed for first-degree relatives. All details should be provided as multiple conditions could require further review or cause declination.
