2. Introduction
Hello! I’m Vanessa Rose, a sophomore at Eugene Lang College. I definitely would not consider
myself to be technologically savvy, (It took me ages to figure out how to make this
presentation...) but I’ve come to realize how much of my world, and THE world revolves around
technology. Although I don’t like to admit it, I am a pretty avid user of many social technologies.
I use a cell phone, I have an iChat account, and a Facebook account, all which I check on a daily
basis.
3. Concept
My original concept for my project was to create a collage, using pictures found on
Facebook, with photos of my friends and I that highlighted our use of social
technology. This idea came from just browsing on my friends’ pages and being
shocked by the number of pictures where a cell phone (most commonly a
Blackberry) made it into the frame.
After thinking about this for a while, I started to notice other things... like how many
of these pictures of people on their cell phones were taken by a person on his/her
cell phone, and then uploaded to Facebook, and then people were tagged, and
these people went on their computers to view the pictures, and comment on them,
which leads to someone posting more pictures....
It was all just starting to seem a little absurd to me, but I find the absurd
fascinating... So in the spirit of social technology, why not Blog about it?
YES- In creating this Blog, I am contributing to the swell of social technology which
I’m not a huge supporter of, but I’ve always got a bit of a “can’t beat em’, join em’”
mentality, so why not.
My Blog intends to point out some silly aspects and references of many social
technologies. It will be a space for me to post these observations, and I will also
post other peoples observations, which can be emailed to me at:

4. Precedents
There are a lot of blogs out there. I could not tell you how many. Millions, maybe
Billions? How will mine stand out??
I think I have an interesting perspective on technology. In some ways I feel very
separated from it. I didn’t even know how to make a simple website before this
project. But in other ways I feel very connected to it. I had been using a
Blackberry since I was 15 up to last weekend, and can not imagine having grown
up without it. In the time I spent with the device, I went from absolutely loving it, to
seeing it as a burden, to full on despising it. I have strong opinions on Blackberries.
5. Methodology
To create my Blog, I used
Tumblr.
Also, now I can update my
Tumblr directly from my
iPhone with the Tumblr App!
