Take into consider ‘The 3 New’s.
- New character
- New perspective on life
- The main character is New in town
Think about the ‘Time’s.
- Are they going back in time?
- Is their time up, and are you telling what happened up
until their death?
Decide:
- What tense is it?
- Direct or indirect speech, are they the actual thoughts,
feelings, actions and words of the character or is it as
though a camera is watching the events carry out.
- Names to suit the character.
- If you are finding it hard to decide what route the story
would take then think ‘what if’? If Bob went down to the
harbour would he get onto a boat, would he be going to
the fish market?
WHenyoustartwriting,Usethesnowflake method.
-You start with 7 words which you want to feature in your
story.
Then move it up to 14 words, like an Entrance sentence.
Then, your first paragraph.
Then, your first page. Warning!
Don’t reveal
too much too
fast.
DOn’t:
- Don’t give it all away by telling it to
them.
Narrative
Narratives in both books and films follow a cycle of what is
known as an equilibrium, this is means a balance.
Ifyouarewritingsequential pieces..
Then you should consider the 3 3’s.
What will happen in your narrative in 3 days?
What will happen in your narrative in 3 weeks?
And finally think about what could possibly happen in your
narrative in 3 months?
Firstactivity;
Here is a picture prompt.
Those numbered 1 are going to write, What happened before
this picture was taken?
Those numbered 2 are going to write, What happened after this
picture was taken?
