CONCEPT
INITIAL MOODBOARD
Afro-Centric Salon
Design
Design Style : ECLECTIC.
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
The Brief
The client is the proprietress of a hair salon in Lagos. For a couple of
years her space had a unique but dated style she had quickly grown tired
of. She wanted the space to have an African feel, but didn’t want the
heaviness usually associated with the look. Her shop is small but very
busy and couldn’t deal with the appearance of further congestion.
She also wanted the space to reflect her eclectic nature.
PROJECT TYPE: COMMERCIAL
African inspired pieces in the form of Geometric and Ikat print
chairs, wall paper and wall Art were introduced to create the
intended atmosphere.
Workstations were designed to look simple and rustic in Grey zebrano wood finish and
keep the appearance of open space.
Gypsy chandeliers and vanity lights around the mirrors, add to the quirky, eclectic nature
of the scheme and work as ambient and task lighting, as the space receives poor day light.
Locally crafted combs were converted into wall art.
The existing advancing bright green walls were broken up with
wall paper and contrasted with bright pink seats. The lumbar
cushions on display also add a pop of contrasting colour.
Design Style : Contemporary
Location: VGC, Lagos
PROJECT TYPE: RESIDENTIAL
THE BRIEF
Overhead wall cabinets were custom built for
a small cluttered kitchen in need of more
storage.
An update to the window treatments
replaced the counter-top length fabric
curtains - which were a potential fire hazard,
with simple perforated Venetian blinds.
Cabinet doors were re-hinged and the sink
frame restructured.
An extractor hood was installed to reduce
smoke congestion.
Office
Reception
Design
Design Style : Contemporary
Location: London, UK.
The Brief :
The Client was in the process of upgrading
the facilities of an old film studio and
required a design for the main reception that
will reflect the new image they want to
portray fro their establishment. They
requested a hotel-styled reception, not of a
conventional sort, but more along the lines
of Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
They had recently redesigned their logo and
requested that elements of it be reflected in
the scheme. The waiting area had to sit a
maximum of 10 people.
PROJECT TYPE: COMMERCIAL COMPETITION

In keeping with the Mr. and Mrs. Smith theme, our inspiration keywords
were EDGY, CURRENT, NOIR AND RISQUE. The use of bright red accents,
especially the gorgeously quirky Oka tables achieved the Risqué angle.
Black-grey vinyl tiles were specified and set against predominantly light grey
walls to keep the space bright. The reception desk and back drop in black and
mirror finished TD pedant lights overhead, create a dramatic effect upon
entrance.
White Ceiling tiles inset with black squares create a dramatic effect
at a low cost. More high reflecting Tom Dixon lights in chrome and
copper add “edge” and make the space less conventional.
Hand beaten aluminum wall panels are inset in dark ash wood panels
softens the décor. String Curtains soften the windows but do not obscure
the view. The use of Modular seats makes it convenient to sit up to 10
people in this other wise small space.
Veld Inspired
TV Den
.
Design Style: Light-Eclectic, African Inspired
Location: Lakowe, Lagos
Earthy and rustic elements were used to design a TV
room inspired by a trip to a South African national park
The aim was to keep the décor light, airy and contemporary
while showcasing what is usually an intense style.
The sofa and tribal shield infuse colour into the otherwise
neutral scheme and, along with the rug and ottoman,
soften the other elements in the room.
