CREATE YOUR OWN GOD/GODDESS
The ancient Greeks created their gods and goddesses to help them explain many of the occurrences in their daily
lives or to explain why certain things in nature were the way they were.
For this project, you will be able to create your own god or goddess to represent something that is important to
you-a sport, a hobby, an idea, an experience, etc. You can do this project individually or with up to three people.
This project contains the following:
 Picture portion
You will either draw, create digitally, mold, or find another way to represent your god(dess).
 Written portion
A. You will explain the answers to several questions about your god(dess) in paragraph form. Neatness,
spelling, grammar, and creativity count as well. You will answer the following questions about your
god(dess).
• What is your god(dess)’s name?
• How did you come to be? (Who are your parents and how were you born and raised?)
• What do you control?
• How do humans feel about you?
• What are your symbols?
• What are your strengths and weaknesses?
• How are you (and your partner[s]) similar to the god(dess) you’ve created?
B. The Greeks used myths to explain things in nature. Write a story/myth about what this god/goddess
explains in nature.
Rubric:
Presentation: Up 20 points based on knowledge.
Visual: Up to 30 points judged on creativity, effort, and quality of product.
Myth: Up to 30 points judged upon creativity, originality (DO NOT PLAIGAIRIZE) and the explanation of a natural
phenomenon.
Background of God(dess): Up to 20 points—each element asked for is worth 3 points.
