This document announces a seminar on defence education for the 21st century organized by Hindustan University, Chennai, India and Cranfield University Defence Academy of the UK. The seminar will be held from November 28-29, 2011 in Chennai to develop a shared vision for meeting immediate and future demands in defence education, with a focus on security and safety, simulation and technology-enhanced learning. Experts from Cranfield Defence Academy and leading Indian establishments and universities will discuss issues like explosion safety, simulation, cyber security and defence education.
Defense Institute of Advanced technology is a UGC approved deemed Institution in Maharashtra. It is one of the leading Institutions in defense. It believes in developing and evolving skill-based techniques. Defense Institute of Advanced technology has a great infrastructure. It has a lush green campus academic and administration blocks, hostels, laboratories hostels, sports grounds etc.
Defense institute of advanced technology offers several courses to its students. There are various streams to choose from. So, it is multidisciplinary in nature. There are some world class certified curriculum courses as well. There are steams like commerce, Business administration, and many more. They also have PG diploma courses in Fire Engineering and Integrated safety, Doctor of Philosophy course at the Ph.D. level.
Admission to DIAT is both Merit and Entrance-based.
Biometric research centers on five fundamental areas: data collection, signal processing, decision-making, transmission, and storage. Traditionally, research occurred in subsets of the discipline in separate departments within universities such as algorithm development in computer science, and speech and computer vision in electrical engineering. In the fall semester of 2002, a class in Biometric Technology and Applications was developed to encourage cross-disciplinary education, where all areas of the biometric model would come together and address issues such as research methodologies and the implementation of biometrics in society at large. The course has been modified to accommodate a wider audience, incorporate graduate student research, which is the foundation for modular mini-courses tailored to specific majors and issues. Having an interdisciplinary group of student’s better mirrors the makeup of jobs involved in biometrics, such as management, marketing, or research. The challenge lies in providing a course that accounts for these diverse needs.
The study was carried out at national centre for agricultural mechanization (ncam) ilorin kwara state, nigeria. The data on siwes students used was compiled for the period 2011 to 2015 of planning monitoring and evaluation department of the centre. Results from the study revealed that from the 2011 – 2015 the polytechnics recorded the highest of statistical mean of 44.60 and universities has 32.00 there is a very strong significant difference of 0.00 between the tertiary institutions (polytechnics, universities, college of education and federal training centre). The study also revealed that more of engineering students came for siwes program then science and social science with a very high significant difference of 0.01. No much significant difference between female and male students. The statistical mean for duration of 6 months and 1 year is the highest North central has the highest mean of 63.40 followed by south west is 11.20, north west has 1.80, north east has 1.60 while south south has none (0.00). Implying that only students from the tertiary institutions within the proximity of geo – political zone where ncam is sited came for their siwes programme at the national centre for agricultural mechanization.
Under the aegis of the Jodhpur City Knowledge and Innovation Cluster, Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur has launched Thar Desert Ecosystem Sciences Guided by Nature and Selection (DESIGNS).

MoLE was based on a need to provide training and education where the challenge is the inability to train and communicate due to long-standing challenges of low-bandwidth and limited internet connectivity and infrastructure. Even though the participating organizations JKO and Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), viewed the project from different perspectives, they believed research was needed to show that under unpredictable situations (i.e., full connectivity, low connectivity and no connectivity), m-Learning could address the connectivity challenge.

In this presentation, I propose a naïve definition for defence education – that is
education for people concerned with defence sector. They include, people from
the three services – army, navy and air force; and civil servants from ministry
of defence; and people from defence industry. Clearly, the emphasis is placed
on serving personnel in the military and their educational requirements. While
such broad definition might alienate security sector, it nevertheless captures
the essential points being discussed in this presentation. Much of the
characteristics of defence education are derived from the term military
education, and are used here interchangeably.
The idea of creating an educated military force been perceived as an unattainable goal and often the words “Military Education” evoke a cynical response such as – Isn’t that an oxymoron? Military is one of the important agencies of the state – hence it is logical to infer that educating them would be a national priority. However, many nations often reflect on the educational needs of their defence personnel in
the aftermath of great disasters. For example, after the Gulf War in 1991, many analysts started reflecting on how well military education is addressing the study of
asymmetric war? More recently, similar questions have been asked about cyber warfare.

Training prepares for the tasks you know, well rounded education prepares you for the unforeseen.
Assessment is an integral part of learning, and yet very little attention is paid to e-assessment when it comes to e-learning. A significant effort has been directed towards developing high quality question items that take advantage of the new medium, and yet there appears to be some resistance to embrace this new medium. There have been interesting developments in the field of e-assessment. Symbolic systems such as Maple T.A. have matured sufficiently and provide a range of question items. Another significant development is in the area of short answer question items that are assessed that are tolerant to spelling and grammatical mistakes. The advent of digital pens that capture audio and written content opens new possibilities. We can now begin to address diagrammatic reasoning more elegantly.
In this paper, we make an attempt to review the state-of-play in e-assessment discussing its pros and cons. Starting with a review of technology landscape, we move on to a discussion of some of the perceived concerns for embracing e-assessment both as a diagnostic, formative and summative assessment tool. The paper concludes with a discussion on timely intelligent feedback which still remains a big challenge, and the opportunities that exists to mediate this issue
