My name is Andy Pasco, and I’m a Civil Engineering major at California State University Long
Beach in my Junior year. I first heard about this job …
I have been working as a tutor at the CSULB Engineering Student Success Center since the
beginning of the Spring 2015 semester. This job has helped me to further develop my
communication and leadership skills, and has also helped to improve my skills related to math,
physics, computers, and engineering. I have also been working as a research assistant for the
CSULB Research Foundation since October 2015 on a project that is being funded by Caltrans.
This job has helped me to improve many skills, including: conducting review of critical
literature, designing and administering surveys over the phone and in person, writing
professional reports, working in an office setting where deadlines must be met, and many more. I
am also a member of the ASCE Steel Bridge team, through which I have learned many skills,
such as drafting professional bridge designs through programs such as AutoCAD and SAP, and
the safe and proper use of heavy machinery used in the construction of the steel bridge.
I have highly developed technical and computer skills. My organizational, communication, and
leadership skills have been highly developed through my years at college and my various jobs. I
am a proficient user of AutoCAD, MATLAB, and Microsoft Office (especially word, excel, and
PowerPoint). I thrive in team environments and I am very comfortable working in office settings.
I enjoy conducting research, especially on topics related to engineering. I consider myself to be a
good writer, and I am good with spelling and grammar. I have been told that I am a perfectionist,
and I always pay attention to detail in everything that I do.
