What’s the Matter
Calvin is a very good dancer.
He would always dance
whenever he hears an upbeat
song. One day, his mother
asked him to buy household
materials at a general mart.
Upon going home, Calvin heard
a familiar song he would
usually dance on.
He would dance whenever he
hears the song playing, not
until he dropped all his
purchases on the ground.
Calvin was so worried of his
mother’s reaction upon
learning that he would go
home empty-handed.
To help Calvin, you
need to correctly
identify the special
property present in
each wasted material.
Would you help him?
Robert’s
Parol
Activity 2
Robert, one of the school’s
reliable personnel, is asked to
create five Christmas lanterns
for their Christmas party. Robert
needs the help of the class to
maximize his materials. So, with
the creativity of everyone, your
group will make your own
Christmas lantern.
The class will be divided into
five groups with each group
receiving their materials to
use. You will be given 15
minutes to make your own
Christmas lantern. You will
then present your work and
how did you come up with your
own lanterns.
CHANGES IN SOLID
MATERIALS
(Bent, Pressed, Hammered, or Cut)
Classroom Observation_FirstQuarter_October24
Objective:
Describe changes in solid
materials when they are
bent, pressed, hammered,
or cut
Changes in Solid Materials When
They Are Bent
When solid materials are bent,
their size and shape — their
physical appearance — may
change but no new material is
formed.
Example: bending your body!
Changes in Solid Materials When They
Are Pressed
When solid materials are pressed,
their size and shape may change.
Their texture may also change —
something rough may be smoothened
by pressing. Still no new material is
formed — only a physical change
happens.
Example: pressing clay
Changes in Solid Materials When
They Are Hammered
When solid materials are
hammered, their size, shape, and
possibly even their texture may be
changed. Again, only physical
changes take place; no new
material is formed.
Materials that can be hammered
and formed into shapes without
breaking are said to be malleable.
Metals, in particular, are known to
be malleable.
Example: hammering gold into
jewelry
Changes in Solid Materials When They
Are Cut
When solid materials are cut, their size
and shape may change but, again, no
new material is formed.
There is a huge range of tools for
cutting. The most common are
scissors, which we can use at home to
cut paper, for example.
Saws can be used to cut wood. Metal
cutters can vary from snips and
pliers to huge machines for cutting
iron and steel. Some machines even
use flames, lasers, high-pressure
water to cut solid materials.
Example: cutting paper

Tata Predo
On The Go!
Tata Predo is a reliable and
hardworking school personnel. He
needs the help of the class to
understand what objects can
undergo these certain conditions.
So, to help him, you will list 5 or
more materials at home and at
school that can undergo these
following conditions.
GROUP STARCUT: Your group will
list down 5 or more objects that
can be cut.
GROUP HAMMERED-HEAD: Your
group will list down 5 or more
objects that can be hammered.
GROUP BENT 10: Your group will
list down 5 or more objects that
can be bent.
GROUP SOFIA THE PRESSED: Your
group will list down 5 or more
objects that can be pressed.
Roses represent
their learning for
that day and how
the lesson improved
their science skills.
The Thorns
represent
their
difficulties
in dealing
with the
topic
The Buds
represent the
things that you
want to see in
the next
discussion.
Observing
Time!
A. Which object can undergo two
or more conditions without
changing its property?
B. How did each object react
when undergoing such conditions?
C. How did this activity influence
you in dealing with your day-to-
day activities?
The Anchor
Chart
a. What happens to materials
when they are cut?
b. What happens to materials
when they are pressed?
c. What happens to materials
when they are hammered?
d. What happens to materials
when they are bent?
Each group will create
their own anchor chart
with templates provided
by the teacher. Each
group will fill in the
necessary details to
summarize the learning.
Additional
Activties!
ASSIGNMENT
Check whether the
given object can
undergo certain
conditions such as
cutting, hammering,
pressing, or bending
and describe the
changes that may
occur in each object.
Thank
You!
