Feudalism developed in Europe after Charlemagne's death when organized government disappeared. Society was structured with the king and nobility at the top, followed by knights, then peasants at the bottom. People entered into feudal contracts exchanging labor and goods for military protection. Manors were largely self-sufficient agricultural estates worked by serfs who gave most of their produce to the lord in exchange for land.
The documents compare maps of the Roman Empire and Medieval Europe to highlight differences arising after the fall of Rome. Feudalism emerged as a political-economic system wherein lords provided protection to vassals (knights and peasants), who pledged loyalty and provided services or food. This system brought more order and stability to Europe compared to the period directly following Rome's fall, when invasions and instability were rampant.
The document discusses the social structure of feudal society. It describes the relationship between lords and vassals, with vassals owing duties to their lords. Knights were trained from a young age and served as lesser nobles. Peasants included both freemen, who paid rent but were able to leave their land, and serfs who were bound to the land. The pyramid of power placed the king at the top receiving loyalty from nobles, who received land and gave loyalty in turn, down to knights and peasants at the bottom.

The tape would start out scratchy and contain a voice describing being trapped in the woods with the tall faceless man chasing them. Sound effects of the woods and a final scare of Slenderman's sound would be included. The student feels good about their idea but still needs to do research on the Slenderman mythology and learn audio editing software skills.

The passage discusses how two works, the play Our Town and the film Dead Poets Society, depart from theatrical/cinematic traditions in ways that enhance the experience for audiences. Our Town breaks conventions by having the stage manager directly address viewers and use invisible props. This confuses viewers at first but adds flavor. Dead Poets Society depicts a teacher urging boys to reject tradition if it makes them miserable, empowering them to pursue dreams rather than adhere to societal norms. Both works illustrate how departing from expected conventions can resonate more with audiences by allowing new perspectives.

The YYY is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the
U.S. Department of Defense. YYY works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day.
There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use YYY. YYY satellites circle the earth twice a day in a
very precise orbit and transmit signal information to earth- YYY receivers take this information and use
triangulation to calculate the user's exact location. Essentially, the YYY receiver compares the time a signal
was transmitted by a satellite with, the time it was received. The time difference tells the YYY receiver how far
away the satellite is. Now, with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine
the user's position and display it on the unit's electronic map. A YYY receiver must be locked on to the signal of
at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position (latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or
more satellites in view, the receiver can determine the user's 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude).
Once the user's position has been determined, the YYY unit can calculate other information, such as speedy
bearing, track, trip distance, distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more.

8. A poem by Joanne, who bullied others at school
I regret it now,
I've apologised now,
But I know it's not OK.
Maybe I thought it was a joke,
But I'm sure it hurt you bad,
It wasn't just me,
But I know now it was sad.
Just little things - we read your diary,
We laughed at your things,
We whispered behind your back,
Just loud enough for you to hear,
Cos we were jealous of your clothes and your hair.
We were only ten or eleven,
And I regret it now,
I've apologised now,
But I know it's not OK. • Can we say this poem is

9. Beating the bully
Thousands of children in Britain are suffering the misery of being bullied. In just one year
the national charity Childline received 22,332 calls from children who were being picked
on. Many put up with the torture, but some find it too awful to bear. Between 10 and 14
cases of childhood suicide occur every year as a direct result of bullying.

10. Why is bullying such a serious matter?
a. Tell an adult. No one deserves to be bullied and speaking about it should not make
the situation worse. In a recent survey, seven out of eight victims of bullying felt that
speaking out made things better.
b. Bullies are quick to spot characteristics that might mark someone as being different
from the crowd.
c. The best thing is to stop bullying before it starts. Pupils need to discuss the subject
and know how to seek help. Young people need to be taught how to solve conflicts
without being aggressive. In some schools students are trained to be "peer mediators" -
stepping in to support fellow pupils in difficulties.
d. No. A recent survey of 2,300 six- to nine-year-olds found the most common bullying
was name-calling.
e. If a bully hurts someone physically, they are guilty of assault. The age at which a
person in England is considered to be capable of responsibility for a criminal act has
recently been reduced to 10. In Scotland, it is eight. What is the legal age in Portugal?
9
10. f. Bullies are usually people with problems themselves. They may feel inadequate or
scared and use bullying as a cover.
g. There is no guarantee that meeting violence with violence will solve anything. It may
result in the victim being excluded from school or even seriously injured.
h. A survey by Kidscape in 1998 among 1,000 adults showed that many felt their school
days had been stolen from them by bullies and that they had been haunted by feelings
of anxiety and bitterness ever since.
i. Most bullying means repeated acts of intimidation. It is deliberately carried out. It
happens when a person or a group tries to dominate others who they consider weaker. It
always causes the victims pain.
j. Schools have a "duty of care" for pupils. This means they must do all they can to
protect students from harm.
