3. A well- known researcher on stress, Selye
(2015), defined stress as a reaction to any
pleasant or not pleasant conditions. He
added that stress depends on how the
person perceives it. It depends upon how a
person will react and interpret stressors.
4. Starting with the millennial generation and
now Gen Z. Students are feeling more and
more pressure on their academics. Especially
the Senior High School Students since they
are preparing for their College life. More Test
Preparation, Testing, Performance Task and
Extracurricular Demands, teens are surely
feeling the heat.
5. According to the research, Academic Stress
derived from a desire for perfection, parental
pressure, sports commitments or heavy class
load. Nervous breakdowns, panic attacks,
burnouts and depression are on the rise
among teens and young adults.
7. According to Pajares (2016), Coping skills are
factors that determine how a person
responds to a task and how well they
succeed.
8. Earnest and Dwyer (2015) define stress coping
skills as “the ability to apply strategies that
minimize and manage the stress response.” There
are different types of coping styles, and the two
major coping methods discussed are problem-
focused coping and emotion-focused coping.
9. COPING MECHANISM AMONG
GRADE 11 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
LEARNER TO ACADEMIC STRESS:
BASIS FOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY
PREPARED BY: RYAN N. SANCHEZ
10. Stress is inevitable in the Senior High School education
setting since it is the stage that determines the future
planning of an individual’s life. It is the turning point
where every individual has to make his career and life
choices. Towbes and Cohen (2017) mentioned that due
to the transitional nature of college life, college students
particularly freshmen, are a group particularly prone to
stress (D’ Zurilla & Sheedy, 2016). High levels of stress
affect students' health and academic functions.
11. It is very true in our country today and more
specifically in our school since the K-12
program moved its way to Grade 11. The Senior
High School students encountered different
sources of stress and pressured by the difficulties
in academics like getting higher grades and
achieving academic success. Family problems
became a source of stress too.
12. Senior High School is a stressful time for many
students as they go through the process of
adapting to new educational and social
environments. However, it is believed that
certain factors may allow some students to
succeed academically, such as stress coping
skills.
13. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
This study specifically aimed to make a plan of action
(Recrational Activity) on how to reduce the Academic
Stress of the Grade 11 Senior High School Students.
14. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aimed to find out the Coping Mechanism of the
Grade 11 Senior High School Learners to Academic Stress in
Leuteboro National High School. Specifically, it sought to answer
the following questions:
15. 1. What is the mean assessment of the
student-respondents on coping mechanism
inventory in terms of;
1.1 Active Coping Strategies
Confrontive coping
Planful problem-solving, and
Positive reappraisal?
2.2. Passive Coping Strategies?
Self-controlling
Accepting responsibility, and
Escape-avoidance
16. 2. What is the level of stress
among students in terms of:
1. 1 academic Stress;
1.2 financial Stress and
1.3 psychosocial Stress?
17. 3. Is there a significant relationship
between Student’s Coping
mechanism and Academic Stress?
18. RESEARCH DESIGN
The researcher will use the quantitative method of research in
this particular study .This is also a “descriptive-correlational
study” that examined the Coping Mechanisms and
its relationship to Academic Stress among Grade 11 Senior High
School Learners.
