DESCRIBE THE DISTRIBUTION OF
ACTIVE VOLCANOES, EARTHQUAKE
EPICENTERS, AND MAJOR
MOUNTAIN BELTS.
WHAT IS THE SCIENTIFIC BASIS
FOR DIVIDING THE LITHOSPHERIC
PLATES?
The place on Earth where most of the
earthquakes originated or some mountains and
volcanoes were formed mark the boundaries of
each lithospheric plate. As mentioned earlier, each
plate is slowly moving relative to each other,
causing geologic events to happen along their
boundaries.
LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE RELATIVE MOTION OF
CRUSTAL PLATES IN THE FIGURE BELOW
•What can you see in the
picture?
• What is the picture all
about?
Studying plate boundaries is important along
these boundaries deformation of the lithosphere
is happening. These geologic events have a great
impact not only on the environment but also on
us.
WHAT ARE THE THREE TYPES OF
PLATE BOUNDARIES?
•Divergent boundaries?
•convergent boundaries?
•transform fault boundaries?
• What is Divergent boundaries?
• What is convergent boundaries?
• What is transform fault boundaries?
DIVERGENT BOUNDARIES?
•Boundary wherein plates are move
apart
CONVERGENT BOUNDARIES?
• Boundary wherein plates are move
towards each other
TRANSFORM FAULT BOUNDARIES
• Boundary wherein plates slides each
other.
•After learning the different types of plate
boundaries, let us now explore the various effects
of plate tectonics on Earth’s lithosphere.
