Economic growth in the Democratic Republic of Congo slowed to 6.5% in 2011 due to global inflation and political uncertainty. The budget deficit increased to 6.3% of GDP, and is projected to widen further to 7.8% of GDP in 2012. Unemployment among youth remains extremely high, with over 70% of those aged 15-24 without jobs. The country faces challenges in developing policies to address youth unemployment and promote employment.
