Conflict is unavoidable in organizations due to differing interests and scarce resources. Sources of conflict include division of labor, interdependence of groups, and scarce resources that create winners and losers. If not managed properly, conflict can have negative consequences like some groups gaining influence at the expense of others. However, conflict also contains opportunities if handled constructively through open communication and understanding different perspectives.

19. Sources of conflict
Conflict
Division of labor
Organizations function by assigning different tasks to different individuals
and groups. Not everyone can do everything. Though they operate under
the same organizational umbrella, these groups inevitably develop their own
points of view, goals, and priorities.
Interdependence
Every group depends on other groups in the organization to do its work. No
group can function or succeed on its own.
Scarce resources
No organization can do everything that those in it would like to do. Choices
must be made. When resources like money, people, space, time, and
attention are divvied up, there will always be winners and losers. Obviously,
every group wants to win.

Conflict
The state can influence the nature, quality and direction
of industrial relations directly or indirectly.
Government is both “master and servant or referee”.
Master by virtue of its legislative and control functions
and servant as it has to look after the other party’s
needs by creating structures and systems to
institutionalize conflict and cooperation and to facilitate
conduct of primary relationships
26. Analysis
Conflict
More than 500,000 children under-18 have been
recruited into state and non-state armed groups
in over 85 countries worldwide.
Children make for cheap and obedient fighters,
and are easier - because of their youth and
inexperience - to mould into effective and
expendable combatants.

Appropriate support must be provided for the children affected, in
order to reduce their suffering and to promote their integration into
