Objective:Testnewwirelessaccesspointstoverifytheyare VLAN capable andrunaccordingto specon
a SonicWALLFirewall.
SetupParameters:
1. Configure two SSIDsonWAPs(KD Test1and KD Test2) and assignVLAN IDs as follows:1(Test1),
20 (Test2)
2. SetupKD Test1 SSIDwithconnectiontointernal KDnetwork(10.0.11.1 255.255.255.0 Subnet)
3. SetupKD Test2 SSIDwithconnectiontointernetaccessonly(10.0.12.1 255.255.255.0 Subnet)
4. Configure SonicWALLtoacceptVLAN IDs 1 and 20 (Allow VLAN 1to have access to internal
network,andVLAN 20 to have accessto Internetonly)
TestingParameters:
1. Connectto Test1 andpingserverand Google.com
2. Connectto Test2 andpingserverand Google.com
Resultsshouldreflect thatserverisnotaccessible from Test2butIS accessible from Test1.
ConfigurationSteps for SonicWALL:
1. ConfiguredX2Interface on
SonicWALLto add newLAN
(10.0.11.1) Network> Interfaces
> Configure ColumnforX2
2. AddedVLAN for10.0.12.1 network clickAddInterface… andselectyourZone as LAN,VLAN tag
as the VLAN ID you want(thisone is20) andselectthe Parent Interface as X2
3. Created2 DynamicDHCP Scopesand boundthemto the X2 Subnetandthe X2:V20 VLAN and
made thembothstart at 10.0.x.10 andend at 25 Network> DHCP Server> DHCP ServerLease

4. Then,inorder to make the VLAN notable to accessinternal resources, addedaFirewallrule to
denyaccessto LAN subnetscomingfromX2:V20 Firewall > Matrix > (LAN > LAN)
Configurationstepsfor Xclaim WirelessAccessPoint:
Requirements:WirelessDevice withiOSor Androidand XclaimHarmony App Installed
1. Unbox XclaimAccessPoint andconnectit usingthe providedPoEInjector NOTE:The Xclaim
device needstobe connectedtothe portyou setupyourtwosubnetsonthe SonicWALL(inthis
example,the portX2was used)
2. If the Xclaimhasbeenusedelsewhere (or haspriorconfigurationsonit) pressandholdthe
RESET buttondownfor15 secondsthenrelease.(The resetprocessshouldtake approximately2
minutestocomplete)
3. Use yourwirelessdevice andopenyourXclaimHarmonyApplication(Firsttime usersof the App
shouldcomplete steps4-7,if you have finishedsetup,skiptostep8)
4. Tap Get Started
5. Create a passwordyoucan rememberandtap next
6. Skipthe SSID setuppage (We will create the SSIDslater)
7. Tap Finish
8. Tap the WLANS tab andtap the Plussignabove it
9. Under SSIDtype inthe firstSSIDyouwould like tosetup(forthistest Test1 wasused)
10. Choose tobroadcast the SSID (If youdo notbroadcast the SSID,you will needtorememberit
EXACTLY as youtypedit in)
11. If this isthe internal network,make sure the VLAN IDissetto 1
12. Under Encryption,tapSecured
13. Type in the EnterPassphrase box,the passwordyouwantto use
14. Choose AES
15. Turn off ClientIsolation(bydefaultitsturnedoff)
16. If you wantto limitbandwidthonUplinkorDownlink(UploadorDownload)thendosobelow
ClientIsolation,if nottapthe FloppyDrive iconat the top right
17. Once it issaved,tap the Plussignagainand complete steps9-16withthe SSID,Password,and
VLAN ID forthe secondnetwork(inthisexample Test2,Testing1!,and20 were used)
18. Connectto the XclaimWAPwithyourdevice (the SSIDwill broadcastasxclaim_setup)
19. Make sure you’re onthe AccessPointstaband tap Searchfor AccessPoints
20. Selectthe AccessPointfromthe list
21. Name the AccessPoint(inthisexample,the name wasWAP)
22. Type in a locationforthe WAP (thisisoptional)
23. You can change the settingsof the radiosforyourwireless(inthisexample,the defaultvalues
were sufficient)
24. Scroll downto the bottomand choose yourWLANS(tap once for bothradiosto broadcast or tap
more timesto indicate 2.4or 5GHz frequenciesdependentonyourenvironment.Inthis
example,BothRadioswere chosenforbothWLANS)
25. Once you have completedyourconfiguration,tapthe FloppyDiskicononthe top rightto save.
NOTE: Once yousave,itwill kickyouoff the xclaim_setupWiFi andyouwill needtoconnectto
one of the SSIDsyou setuponthe WAP inorderto configure itfurther
26. Give the XclaimWAPabout 5 minutestofullyconfigure the SSIDsandyouwill be goodtogo!
Connectupand testthe internetconnectiontomake sure itisconfiguredproperly.
